Today Angie and I are readying the house for our annual 'Sometime In Between Thanksgiving & Xmas' party. We have lots of beer, tons of homemade food and fireworks. It should be an eventful night (that will most likely end with me plunging my crazy ass into a freezing cold ocean).

I want a damn invite! Lemme just call in sick for the next few weeks and drop out of the last 3 weeks of school before I graduate.

And now I'm looking at Campbell's kickin' crab & sweet corn.

But it's beer with Scrod! You can't compare the two man, no comparison!

(I graduate Dec. 14th - these last 3 weeks are just a formality).

And while I'm giving up the good news, I got accepted and start graduate school here. Will have my MA in English in 2014.

Today I:

Today I did something new.

In all my years of working on bicycles, I have plenty of experience cleaning and overhauling but have never polished anything. The victims: a pair of Campagnolo Record hubs from 1972, shown here after cleaning:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...lo_Hubs_05.jpg

They were really caked with decades of grime (wish I had taken before pics), and spent more than a week soaking in solvent to loosen things up. Front first, makes a big difference side-by side:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...lo_Hubs_07.jpg

And both together after re-assembly:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...lo_Hubs_14.jpg

Considering my inexperience and what I started with I think that was an improvement, but it could probably get better. Now I'll have to polish ALL of the parts :( .

After that adventure, I cleaned my roller drums and replaced the rear tire on my 930 (from Thursday's flat).

Jandro 11-24-12 07:11 PM

Wow, those look great! Nice job. :thumb:

Dannihilator 11-24-12 08:37 PM

Today I had a fun 36 miles then put some lights up.

SS_Giant 11-24-12 08:48 PM

today I finally got my new wheelset in and rode fixed around in true JA fashion (brakeless, tapeless, retention-less)

brakes/tape/straps at the package center which is closed due to the holidays, just couldnt resist putting the wheels on. this means tomorrow I get an excuse to 'cant stop dont want too' all over the place tomorrow!

That there's a bathtub, buddy.

Dannihilator 11-24-12 10:00 PM

I also made the color selection today in regards for the 930. You all will have to wait until it is complete to find out the color.

Got a letter from a special needs kid I gave an old bmx bike I'd gotten as part of a bulk buy to. He'd needed a new one after his parents sold his old bike for money for cigarettes. I'd totally forgotten. I'm speechless.

It was mailed by his teacher, with the school as the return address, but still.

I'm thinking of polishing a few parts myself. I have a few cranks that I dont intend on ever selling and then I have a whole Dura Ace AX group I want to sell and the crank is a bit scruffed up. I probably shouldnt touch the DA parts

Adrian_ 11-24-12 10:22 PM

Today I talked to my dad on the phone for the second time in my life, it was hella awkward. Found out my grandma on his side is Native American so that's pretty cool I guess.

Don't worry, that's because they think you're a perv and don't want you to know where the kid lives

I never talked to my dad until I was 28 years old... was hard not to as I moved within two blocks of his house and we had many of the same friends.

He was really a decent guy and we had just started to get to know each other when he passed away from a heart attack... he had been busy getting his cabin ready to celebrate what would have been our first father's day together.

I'm scared of this happening. My adoptive father and I don't get along at all, and I've never met my biological father. I know who he is, and i have his address, but I'm scared. What if he doesn't know about me? What if he does and wants nothing to do with me? I'm glad that you got to meet him, and that he was a good guy. Sorry about your loss .

I just ordered some new plugs. Going up again. 3/4" -> 7/8" for now, 1" in a few months. After that, no more.

ThimbleSmash 11-25-12 04:39 AM

Went to work, don't know why but I feel trashed and almost want to fall asleep in the back office of the store. Just gotta hold out a little longer and I can pedal home and crash. Wish I could screw around on my bike outside, no customers at this hour.
