Set up a couple iPads today. I'm so in love.

tomorrow afternoon the wife flies to Illinois for her mom's next round of chemo. I will be alone in the house til Tuesday night. No idea what I'm gonna do.

Novatec SL's to A23's with lasers and alloy nips 24/28 2x front and back. 1468g before veloplugs, weighed by scrod himself.

RGNY 12-15-12 09:04 PM

Dannihilator 12-15-12 09:15 PM

nice, thats almost a pound less than the regular novatecs 32/32

Dannihilator 12-15-12 11:48 PM

Oh I also decided that I'm going to put a suspension fork back on the dmr.

sinikl 12-16-12 01:48 AM

today(tonight?) i got soaked on my way home from a bar in a rain squall. worth it to not be tipsy even on a bike, let alone a car (i'm still afraid of the fast handling on a track-ish Kilo TT, so i don't drink a lot).

how much did you end up spending for the set? I'm trying to figure it out how much more or less I spent buying the competitive cyclist 2011 hed ardennes gp wheelset. It seemed like a good deal at $450 but now I don't know if it was such a deal...

Mumonkan 12-16-12 05:10 AM

Scrods got some pretty good prices, should definitely be less than 450

8bits 12-16-12 05:31 AM

yeah...I mean, the C2 rim is very similar to the A23 and it looks nice, I suspect that the hub is better (but not much) than the novatec but the spokes on the ardennes aren't butted and that's just wrong for the money :-/

Mumonkan 12-16-12 06:23 AM

Fwiw mine came out to like 260 sans 85 for labor, and that was with more spokes, i dont think the hubs are more than $20 more each than the track ones

The hubs came from BDop at $160 for the set, shipped with skewers.

Everything totaled $436, built and shipped, although that was during scrods monkey business monday, and 15% off wheel goods.

Looks like they come out to ~$475 built/shipped without the discount. You could also cut 25 bucks by not using the most expensive novatecs.

ThimbleSmash 12-16-12 12:05 PM

I woke up and went out into the kitchen, smelt the linger of a family morning breakfast. Ask my father, "You guys had breakfast without me?". He proclaims to have tried to wake me up, I proclaim bull****. He knows better then to give such a poor effort to wake me up. Letting me spit out an automated reply then simply roll over and continue sleeping is not known to be a effective measure for waking me up. But I guess better luck next time lol.

However on a more bike related matter, I will finish putting my replacement parts on my daily ride to complete getting it ready for another 6-8 months of riding. Also going to shop around for a simple small headlight to use when I just need to zip around the corner real quick at night.

...and if he'd kicked you in the head, you'd probably be complaining about that, but loving on the sweet breakfast you missed...

As a dad, I know this to be true.

8bits is in Brazil so shipping will be a lot more expensive, plus he'll have to pay taxes when they arrive.

TMonk 12-16-12 04:28 PM

kicked down 4.5 hrs today, last 90 min or so nice and hard.
logged in 17 hrs this week of riding time. haven't hit this much since college, but that's what being single and having a new apt close to work will do to ya.

Didn't know that.

It will be more monies.

Tonight I am freaking stuck at the bike shop, doing a sleepover, because my FWD car has totally bald tires on the front wheels and there's not enough snow coming down for DPW to actually plow/salt the roads. Tomorrow, I will pay the equivalent of an at-cost Soma frame, or 2x an at-cost Pake frame to get a couple of tires on the car so I can actually get home.

Tragedy? Set of studded tires already mounted at home on my commuter bike. Fuuuuuuuuh...k. Shoulda rode in.

Pity me. Except for the Dogfish Head 90 Min IPA I posted on the "What are you drnkn?" thread.

So all in all it was a good deal for me, same price and same weight, just less spokes on mine and they are not butted.

Last night I was stopped by campus police for "walking in the darkness suspiciously with a bike". They're cracking down I guess, because the semester just ended and a lot of students leave their bikes locked up outside for the whole month that they're out of town. He asked me several questions and requested both my dl and student id. He filled out some slip with my info as a record in case the bike came up reported stolen, and he was too lazy to attempt to read the serial number through the powdercoat so he just took a picture of the bike. I told him that I built the bike myself when he remarked as to how light it was, and then he called my fixed gear a ten speed.

He was courteous and said that I would have wanted the same to happen if my bike had been stolen. It's a shame that when my bike was stolen I couldn't even get the assigned detective to return my calls, but that was in a different town. The last time I was stopped for the same "looking suspicious" I was a lot less annoyed than this time. Eh well I need to be more patient with bumbling officers with nothing better to do.
