You're going to have to try harder fresh meat.

On topic:

Today I had a leisurely bike ride with my wife. For some reason, I feel that I'm unable to actually relax and always trying to go fast....

hairnet 07-17-11 03:11 PM

I rode for about six hours yesterday and I have the sun burns to prove it. At least I am happy to know I finally have a saddle that does not hurt after a couple hours

You should try that after sunburn cream/ gel with aloe; it really helps. Seriously, my first bi-weekly distance bike ride in socal on my roadie resulted in harsh neck and arm sunburn because I was wearing my short sleeve jersey and no sunscreen; sunscreen doesn't sell very well in the bay area. Which leads me to ask why didn't the said native know better? :p

hairnet 07-17-11 03:19 PM

I put sun screen but I guess it wore off after a couple hours from the sweat and I forgot to bring the tube with me. I have applied aloe gel multiple times since I got home. I'm going to have killer tan lines on my arms and quads

Leukybear 07-17-11 03:25 PM

Well the flip side is I heard sqrls dig guys with tan lines. :thumb:

hamfoh 07-17-11 03:41 PM

I'm not sure that guy knows what trolling is, especially since he called it trolling.

Si :( I'm going to take everything off sometime here in the next day or two and put it back on.

i feel like this on my commute everyday! i always tell myself im just gonna cruise but it never happens.

hamfoh 07-17-11 04:00 PM

same. if I leave early enough to get somewhere I think "I'm going to relax and take my time" and always end up hauling ass and showing up drenched in sweat.

Today I:

1. Figured out what caused my little accident yesterday (on a ~60 mile road ride on the Serotta, on a downhill, over-shifted on the front, chain jammed, bent the new big ring). Today I had the bike on the stand, thought I had correctly adjusted the derailleur stop, and did it again. As I was untangling the chain, something dropped on the floor. It was one of the derailleur pivot bolts . At least I was able to put it back in and get it working properly. Maybe it is time to upgrade to 10-speed .

2. Listed a few things on ebay in anticipation of needing cash for a new build :innocent:.

Or maybe it's time to upgrade to a bike with a fixed gear

Well, considering that I already have FOUR fixed gear bikes and working on a fifth, I'll keep wishing for ten-speed for the Serotta.

Dude, you've only got 4 FGs ? I just got my 8th, and am still planning my 9th. :p

You also have a head-start on me as you apparently are older and I am only getting (re-)started on the collection :o.

hamfoh 07-17-11 05:17 PM

Forgot I had an extra set of chainbolts that Scrod linked me not too long ago. Just replaced the loose one. Hopefully I can bring an end to boring people about it once and for all.

konageezer 07-17-11 05:30 PM

Re-wrapped my handlebars with cork/gel tape. And fixed a flat. Then it started to rain.

Well, this is more of a "a few days ago I:" because I've been away from good internet access.

I learned how to do a no hands track stand! :)

In other news, I can somewhat-consistently do a reverse 180 and pedal away.

I'm not really into the fixed gear scene for the tricks but it's a fun bonus.

streetdude 07-17-11 09:43 PM

Today (well, tonight) I rode 31 miles on my Steamroller. At about the halfway point, during a climb, I saw a family of four or five skunks waddling along the side of the road. I got goosebumps all over my body and sprinted the **** up that hill. Skunks are a great motivator! :D

hamfoh 07-17-11 10:05 PM

haha had a similar situation with raccoons crossing the street. at first I was frightened for some reason, then I went back and tried to get close to them

clicking returns! new bolts and all. I'm about to take a hack saw to my bb

misskaz 07-18-11 08:28 AM

Saturday I rode 106 miles on my geared bike.

Sunday I mowed the lawn and otherwise didn't move. Finished the first Game of Thrones book.

Today I rode to work on my new Terry saddle. It was 85 degrees at 5:30 am. Ugh.

In the past month, I have ridden to work every day, plus weekend rides of 64, 45, and 106 miles. And I've gained 2 lbs. WTF, sigh.
