since cancelling stanridge I'm considering cheaper alternatives as all of the 'so hot right now' names generally have a minimum of 6 month wait time. looking at the Dodici frame options and they're willing to make their 1" threaded steel frames into a 1-1/8 threadless for a custom job (+100 e), which I'm leaning towards. The veloce and the leggero are their steel frames, one is lugged (and chromed) and one isn't but their geometry is identical. I've never had a track frame with lugs before, is there a reason not to?

I was looking at Tiemeyer briefly, I really like the bang/buck factor with him, but I really have my mind set on steel still

The Geekhouse track frame isnt terribly expensive for a custom steel frame and there is a lot of customization you can do too.

Is there a reason you don't go to someone more local? Several builders in the Austin/Houston area that build great bikes and you could actually speak with them and be fit by them.

Squarebuilt in Brooklyn? Don't let the hot mess of a website deter you.
Also Marinoni makes a Zona pista frame which is pretty sex. Built by an Italian in Canada.

Nagrom_ 11-07-12 09:49 AM

Colossi? They make everything.

everything.

yeah I talked to marty recently, 6-8month wait. I like the Dodici Leggero a lot, may just do a semi custom with them and save lots of money

Nice, that looks like it'll work a lot better. Definitely keep the brakes with that high ratio... almost 93 g" -- that's serious ****. I thought I was manly for rocking 79 g" on the street. What kind of hills do you see on that (if any)?

It's almost completely flat here aside from a few short hills. I'm still trying to dial in my fit on the aero bars, it doesn't help that the clamps are such pita

You better remember to use plenty of sequins and glitter paint/ glue.

cruiserhead 11-07-12 12:12 PM

today I tackled the finish of stage 6 USA Pro Cycling tour. After 90+ miles this would have been so brutal:

Hope everyone is soaking up the day light and warm weather if it is still around.

Mumonkan 11-07-12 02:35 PM

Today is blizzard. No rides.

Hey! I also worked the polls yesterday as a volunteer ballot clerk, 5:30am to 9:30pm. Rode my ss townie there and back; dark heading in, dark returning home, temps in the low 30s both ways. Figured out about a half a dozen ways to say "Thanks for voting"...

Sounds about like my day: 6:15AM to 10PM. Rode my trusty 3-speed with Dynohub lighting since it was dark both ways. Rained all day too, with temps in the 30s. At 57 I was by far the youngest poll worker there, and they thought I was nuts for riding my bike.

I was not the youngest, but they still thought I was nuts.

One guy, a retired NYC bus driver had quote of the day: "Bicycle mechanic?!? That's a job???"

JohnDThompson and mconlonx, thanks for being poll workers! You make me feel a lot better after all the "there's no difference between the candidates" talk around here. :)

Today I am about to leave for Milwaukee to go see David Bazan (Pedro the Lion) with a friend. Yay weeknight road trip!

Nice -- Pedro the Lion was great. I just Googled and found out I totally missed out on his solo stuff... and wow, they're playing Control in its entirely on this tour!? Awesome. Thanks for the heads up.

EDIT: only $15!? Buying tickets to the SF show on 12/10 now. Hell yes.

Today I rode in this nor'easter. While it's been on the weak side here, other places are getting slammed. Stay warm to those being affected by this....
