btw saw your frame on CL while I was browsing for a used BK for myself :p

It really doesn't, a 56 square frame is so much bigger than I originally thought. If the 56 fits you, I'd be glad to make you a good deal, I just need it gone to purchase something that isn't cracked and bent and dangerous to ride.

Today I made my ghetto beater slightly less ghetto by swapping out the triple hybrid/mtb cranks with a 105 set that I had sitting around.

This frame was a recent dump find, and when inside I found the non-drive bearing retainer completely torn apart. I replaced the bearings and cleaned everything up, and it is amazing how much smoother, quieter, and lighter this bike feels now! The bike was converted to fixed with all spare parts; I'm pretty happy with with it, considering $0 build.

You sure? You had a 110mm Ritchey stem on there, have you tried a shorter one?

hamfoh 11-08-12 02:44 AM

+ you had horns.

either way, I bought a 58 off craigslist. the 575 toptube is about the sweet spot for me with a 100mm stem

How do you like that saddle?

the fact that I don't even think about it must mean that it's doing a damn good job.

might just be dethroning the Turbo as my saddle of choice.

DanBell 11-08-12 07:53 AM

80 kilometers in total on the Big Block today. Great weather for riding.

I tried with a shorter one, still made my back hurt on longer rider. The horns only made it worse. I only bought the 56 because it matches the top tube on my road bike, which according to the shop I bought it from is also too big. I'm only 5'8.

LesterOfPuppets 11-08-12 11:04 AM

If I was 5'8" I would ride 56s all day every day. Even standing @ 5'6" I enjoy a lot of 56s. I got long legs and long arms tho.

[QUOTE=hamish5178;12543955]How does one fix a stiff link?

From the manual for a CT-5 chain tool (has a stiff link fixer)

Today (well last night) I put a set of MTB pedals on a Cannondale SuperSix Evo full Red with carbon tubulars. I cried a little.

LesterOfPuppets 11-08-12 11:20 AM

Other things I've been known to do:

1. Form a triangle with the stiff pin in the middle and wiggle the hell out of links on either side of stiff pin, really give it a lot of lateral movement with your hands.

2. *(if #1 don't work) Take a flathead screwdriver and put it between the outer plates next to pin, gently pry the plates apart, I repeat GENTLY. Repeat for inner plates. Then do a little bit more of #1

Did you really just respond to a post made in April?

Anyone with two thumbs can loosen a stiff link without using a chain tool.

LesterOfPuppets 11-08-12 11:25 AM

I was wondering when the hell that happened. Hope dude got his kink worked out before summer riding season hit.

BTW, I hate CT-5s.

I wanted to learn to sew, and I couldn't justify spending $25 on a bike burrito. Now I can sew, and I can absolutely justify the expense. I'll probably end up making as many as I can from the fabric I have left, and donate them to my co-op to sell.

misskaz 11-08-12 02:29 PM

One of my TinyFix ladies was a textile design major and works for a company that makes trade show banners/booth stuff and therefore has access to tons of scrap fabric and industrial sewing machines. She's been cranking out these tool bags and we sell 'em for $15. Not as organized as a roll and just meant to be tossed in your messenger bag or whatever, but I like mine a lot. We silk screened a few with our logo too.

Those are pretty cool. I want a real tool roll instead of the pencil bag I use.

The drop bar mtb is coming along. I will have pictures later tonight. I have to get it done because a friend wants to do some off roading tomorrow.
