Today I finally got my resume and cover letter out since my last job attempt ended with no call back. Hopefully I will be guiding a bike tour across the USA this summer.

Today I built an old purple varsity for my brother to ride around Hollyweird and an old french bike for a friend in San Diego. Tomorrow I fly back to Chicago.

Mumonkan 03-09-13 01:14 AM

today i was lubing my chain and the top of it shot off and all my lube burst everywhere except the damn chain, bedframe, carpet, my shorts.

****.

hockeyteeth 03-09-13 02:14 AM

Hmmm... is "lubing my chain" a euphemism I am unfamiliar with?

You might want to go see a doctor for that

Home made in the sense of, professionally hand built here in Canada for over 30 years... :)

We also make these...

Why straight gauge spokes?

FakeFuji 03-09-13 11:16 AM

The man rides a pug, I don't think grams are his main concern.

Today the retention system on my helmet broke, so I rode to work bareback .

Touring wheels... they tend to survive mishaps better than butted spokes.

Huffandstuff 03-09-13 02:15 PM

Today I found a buddies bike that was stolen 6~ months ago listed on Craigslist while searching for another buddies bike that got stolen last night.

Today I went on a chill bro ride with Mumonkan and OntheRun, was pretty fun not riding solo for a change. I would say it was a 3 out of 10 on the awkward scale which is pretty good considering we're random strangers meeting for the first time. Got dropped a few times due to how out of shape I am plus I was really overdressed for the spontaneous 55 degree weather. Also ended my year and a halfish of being a vegetarian for two hotdogs. Then crawled home on the train to end the day.

FakeFuji 03-09-13 04:38 PM

I wish I had ssfg members by me, I think the closest person is danihilator and he's pretty far and would probably drop me within minutes

skielbasa 03-09-13 04:56 PM

While it may not be much to brag about around these parts with the mileage you guys pull, but today I did this:

It was a personal best in just about every way

i thought it was sweet, ride more so we can tear ass next time :)

today i did that^
since i live in guam i ended my day with 84 miles making that my longest ride ever, feelsgoodman

more nyc/nj dudes/dudettes should come out to ride, its a lot better than riding alone

Adrian_ 03-09-13 05:46 PM

Yeah, i've been a veggie for a while. Just got tired of eating meat all the time and I've felt a lot healthier since I stopped. I'm not religious about it though, if i'm starving like I was today i'll eat whatever's close by.

Good work with the mileage, my ride came out to be like 50 mi shorter.

IcySmooth52 03-09-13 05:49 PM

Today I showed an old and rich hag in a luxury car that cycling shoes have cleats that're metal.

She tried to cross over two lanes and cut me off to make a right hand turn, then stopped half way turning to check her GPS or something. I didn't yell, I just took a picture of her license plate, her, and kicked her door lightly, but hard enough to show that in the 90's bicycle technology and laws changed.

glad to see it gave you a positive improvement on your life though, i wish i could try being veg but im like ron swanson when it comes to meat

clarification on mileage: actually 74 since it actually added in the ferry distance even though it wasnt recording between starts and stops

At this time of year, I probably wouldn't drop you. I'm slow when it's cold, fast when warm.

Today I had a good ride on the dmr and test rode an electric bike. Was able to out pedal the motor on it though...

Glad you guys were able to meet up, I will do my best to meet up next time. I am a boarder-line vegetarian, (only animal stuff -fish, eggs & cheese). I feel much better this way.

Today I worked an extra 12 hour shift, then went for a 15 mile hard & fast ride, almost hit about 5 people who don't understand that bike paths are for bikes. Tomorrow I have to work another extra 12 hour shift, yayyy work.

yummygooey 03-09-13 08:39 PM

went on a ride with jdg and co, had 10000000 mechanicals and destroyed my front wheel

go down a stupid steep descent, jdg in front, benjammin behind... i near the bottom of the hill and CANNOT STOP. any more force on the brakes and i woulda flipped so i start yelling "CANT STOP CANT STOP CANT STOP" while jdg is turning into my line. i hit his front wheel and flipped, all star tuck and roll, but then benjammin comes in from behind and runs over me. no one got seriously hurt, which is cool. the worst part was that after we banged the wheel on the ground a couple dozen times to get it rideable, we had to ride back up the hill because the descent was a dead end.

LOL. GOOD DAY.

IthaDan 03-09-13 09:59 PM

Finally got out on a ride today. Was with my dad, so only covered 15 miles.

Also built up a trek oclv frameset I picked up for $40 at a local thrift store with a dip in the partsbin.

Looked like this when I got it-

After a dip in the partsbin and a couple hours, I have this:

Maiden voyage tomorrow, should in the 50s. Very excited for a break in the weather.

Road bikes are frustrating. Going to the LBS on Monday to get my Shogun rebuild finished, f this noise.

:( You could have at least saved the veg-break for a more savory meat.

Today I realized my [short, nighttime, not by any means hardman standard, but still for me it beats the couch] rides go as follows:
1. say you'll survive. still dither about getting off the couch. get on the bike. hate it
2. get warm, start gettin after it
3. pull it back. remember, we're surviving.
4. hate it.
5. hate it even more
6. glimmer of hope
7. that last hill
8. rest from the hill
9. HAMMER IT the remaining 2 miles
10. sw8 skids for fun.

OntheRun. 03-10-13 12:38 AM

It was great meeting and riding with you guys today. More people should definitely come out! Adrian, I gotta give props to you for being vegetarian. I try to eat healthy 2 days out of the week and thats hard for me sometimes. Though, I am the least pickiest person when it comes to food- which can be a good/bad thing? haha.

I did around 55 (estimate) miles today which Im happy about. Once I got home from CP, about 2 hours later I went to go see a friend, which was about another 13 miles :)

For hotdogs???

I try to avoid meat for the most part, but I do have fish frequently (pescatarian is a real word!). I didn't like hot dogs even when I was eating meat regularly. I think they're like the Foo Fighters, you think you should like them because a lot of people like them, but when you really sit down and think about it, they're not that good.

But the big ass aluminum plumbing wrench was free.
