btw when the grips slipped off i nearly impaled myself under the chin on the exposed handlebar end when the bike hit the ground. scariest thing that's ever happened to me on a bike. never, ever again... it seriously was about 6 inches from my throat. lock on grips or no mtbing for me from this day forward.

FFS That's one jank demo bike....

cc700 04-21-13 09:48 PM

guys... no.

The kona i rode last week and the week before.

the bike i own is a giant XTC from 2001. it's the one i was riding today, and it's the one that broke.

the giant i built for 100 bucks. it's a piece. i haven't even been in the same state of the union as the kona for the last week. the kona was amazing, i didn't have a single mechanical problem on it, and it let me rail **** i hadn't even thought of hitting before. if nothing else, my Giant breaking only makes me want a kona more.

Nagrom_ 04-21-13 09:51 PM

So you broke the Kona?

How??

cc700 04-21-13 09:53 PM

Dannihilator 04-21-13 09:53 PM

Leukybear 04-21-13 10:07 PM

Nagrom_ 04-21-13 10:12 PM

leuky has a RAGING KONER.

johnnytheboy 04-21-13 10:13 PM

ESI grips ftw
light, super ****ing comfy and they WILL NOT move once they're on. Just spray some rubbing alcohol inside them, they slip on easy and stay put.

Dannihilator 04-21-13 10:16 PM

I just can't like non-locking grips, just like how I can't like ergon grips.

johnnytheboy 04-21-13 10:21 PM

Try the ESI chunkys.
Ive got some ergons on my touring/commuter.

LesterOfPuppets 04-21-13 10:26 PM

I can't even stand looking at ergons, let alone trying to ride a bike with them on. I did ride Oakley 3s BITD, though. Is that about the same?

I need some kind of grip pattern, I ride gloveless on the dmr and my hands get sweaty.

LesterOfPuppets 04-21-13 10:37 PM

I remember REALLY liking these back in 1990 or so. Might have to grab some off eBay and see if I still do:

A'me is still around. They make a heated grip.

This is the grip I like:

LesterOfPuppets 04-21-13 10:57 PM

Yeah, I see they're still around, just dunno why those Zone grips are sold almost nowhere. Sure am curious to see what I think of the grips today. The ones I had back then didn't have wire grooves. I remember really liking the low flange on them for some reason.

hockeyteeth 04-21-13 11:19 PM

I like most of what ODI makes. I liked ESI silicone grips okay, but I have some lock-on ODI Ourys right now that are the jam. I have big hands and they are big enough in diameter to help keep my hands from cramping while riding my fully rigid MTB. I've finished rides before where my hand was basically locked into a fist and I had to slide it off the handlebar before I could begin to relax my grip. Not fun.

Huffandstuff 04-22-13 12:03 AM

Went and climbed Mt tabor a couple of times today(maybe 4 or 500ft), rather unpleasant out and legs are a little tender from the 50miles I did last night.

Jaytron 04-22-13 12:07 AM

Over the weekend I did some climbing.

20% grades are stupid.

Muffin Man 04-22-13 01:55 AM

Rwg?

TheRealFaux 04-22-13 02:08 AM

Rapha ride this coming weekend guys?

striknein 04-22-13 06:25 AM

Serfas silicon grips own my soul on the MTB. They don't move, and they glue themselves to my hands when I'm riding. SO COMFY TOO.

Took the brakes off and tossed on the bullhorns. I haven't been riding my FG so I'm spicing it up a little. No spare tape for a full bar wrap though :-/

TMonk 04-22-13 11:54 AM

woah bro, woah...

no brakes, no bartape, fixed gear????
cant stop dont watn to???

TMonk 04-22-13 11:55 AM

so weird story yesterday

I rolled up on this cyclist on the side of the road. I asked if he was OK (as always), and he said "No." WTF??? I almost left the ****er behind. "Good job for not bringing a spare tube jackass."

He was all scraped up and clearly concussed. He asked me what my name was (which evidently was the same as his) like every other minute, and kept repeating this story about how he has a truck and his wife needs to pick him up - but he couldn't get a hold of her. This guy was clearly in no shape to ride home or even recall his location to anyone else - so I stayed with him.

He eventually got a hold of his wife. She was a 30min drive away, but I told her that I would wait by him until she came so she could take him to urgent care. If his condition didn't worsen, I told her an ambulance wasn't necessary in my opinion and that I would keep an eye on him and call one up if he deteriorated.

I guess she decided to call 911 as the fire dept, cops and ambulance relieved me of my post later on. Dude definetly rung his bell pretty good; ive been there for sure.
