Nothing in my current stable was near geeky enough. :thumb:

Got a Dahon Mariner, maybe 8-10 years old. Looks like it's spent its entire life indoors, or as a boat steed.

Pics are here...

Very nice! I love folding bikes - very enjoyable rides.

Today I went to lunch with the wife, we rode to get some Japanese curry (Coco's). It felt like I hadn't eaten it in forever, it hasn't been a week lol

Today, I gave all my bikes a test ride just for the heck of it. Got the TB14s on my Sputnik finally. So as of today, both my current FG/SS builds are complete. For now, at least. I also adjusted the cleats on my MTB shoes for the second time; I wanted both shoes to point out more.

Today I Googled "sw8 fixay" and Scrod's new Leader came up in the third row of images.

Steev 04-23-13 05:36 AM

Today (well yesterday evening) I had a spare hour so I grabbed the SS MTB and took my son and went riding in the county forest. Found a dumped frame. It's a Romet, which apparently was a Polish manufacturer with models ranging from crap to OK, but it's my size and had horizontal drop-outs, even if it is a little beat-up and rusty.
Today I go up to the family barn to get a donor bike to build it up.

I got eaten alive by mosquitoes last night. 8 bites within like 10 minutes, and 2 of them were straight through my jersey. They itch.

Ow. It's starting early this year, eh?

You should see my ****ing legs.

If I got a nickel for every mosquito I killed last night... I'd have about 45 cents.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!

Also, I need to run a taller gear. I was responding to attacks whilst seated. Silly.

Not necessarily. You have a mean spin. You might just have to accept that and use it to your advantage.

TMonk 04-23-13 12:06 PM

i respond to attack on road/track without standing up all the time - flex them calves and get low!

in fact, I only get out of the saddle if I absolutely have to, or to stretch while climbing for a min. i thin kits good practice to try to ride like this because getting out of the saddle is like the afterburners - you should try and save them

Muffin Man 04-23-13 12:34 PM

Granted, I was in the C group, I never got out of the saddle for the entirety of the race.

Muffin Man 04-23-13 12:40 PM

My gearing was somewhat limiting though. I physically could not stand without blowing up.

TMonk 04-23-13 01:20 PM

im actually in the same boat - brand new at track, raced "C" last week, gearing slightly low at 48/15t

im gonna get a 50t ring put on b4 TNR tonight. the officials want me to race "B" already so it should be fun racing in faster more competitive field for a few weeks

i can already see how there is certainly an optimization between having a big and low gear - the lower gear will make it easier to respond to surges and accelerations, but you will be missing out on some top end sprint.

misskaz 04-23-13 01:39 PM

Today I went to the dentist for a routine cleaning, ended up getting (my first ever) cavity filled. Woo.

striknein 04-23-13 01:46 PM

I wear drawstring pants when I go to the dentist. That way I know if someone touched me inappropriately while I'm knocked out.

Nagrom_ 04-23-13 01:53 PM

I don't wear pants, that way I know for sure they touched me.

Scrodzilla 04-23-13 01:57 PM

I'm going to give 49x15 a try. I'm at 49x16 right now, and I think I can spin a bigger gear just as fast. (rpm-wise)

from what i've been gathering talking to more experienced track riders, your appropriate gear ratio is highly track-dependent. some tracks are "faster" than others.

Good to know. Hellyer's banks aren't crazy steep.

I talked to one of the instructors and he recommended 86" for 4/5 racing for most people. He acknowledged that I have power, and I am quick, but I have no idea what the hell I'm doing out there. Probably will do a few more intermediate sessions before more racing. (Except this Saturday)

Nagrom_ 04-23-13 03:59 PM

Hellyer is a very slow track.

Street rider 04-23-13 04:11 PM

Today I finished the last big assignment of the semester and sold back most of my books. For a whopping $71. I hate buying text books so much.
