Noticed people getting fatigued and sketchy so I made my way to the rear/side of the pack. Sure enough, carnage in the middle - bikes and bodies flying everywhere. I drifted to the left and avoided all of it. Neutralized finish. Got my points and rode away. No one was seriously injured - all of my friends avoided going down. It was a good day.

p.s. **** the 5's.

Nice man. From reading your posts im sure you're more than strong enough to be racing 3s (4s really aren't any different ime)

If I were you I would treat all 5s races as pack handling and positioning exercises; don't be too gung-ho about trying to prove your strength or get to the 4s by winning a few races. Just get those 10 races in and move to the 4s b4 you try to start punking fools. Keep in mind too that the middle of the pack will always be the most dangerous; if you feel uncomfortable and/or dangerous in the final lap(s), drift to the back and tailgun if you can't stay in the top 10. The middle of the pack in a 4/5 crit is NOT the place you want to be when the cards start getting thrown up.

Also given how much you ride and your riding style you should really enter some cat5 road races with appreciable climbing. there are tons of road races in ncnca. Longer and (usually) safer.

Thanks for the tips (sincerely). The front of the pack was pretty safe all race (which is why I spent most of the time there) but I feel ya on not trying to 'win' cat 5.

I have my first road race on the 19th. Patterson (also in the Early Bird series). I'm stoked on that more than anything. Seems to be much more my style.

Nice. make sure to post a race report here after ur done. and be near the front of the pack when the climb starts. muy importante.

I do crits because im too much of a sissy/weakling to be competitive in my cat in road races and sprinting is the only thing I dont suck at

Today's Sailor Jerry's birthday, so a tattoo shop is doing free SJ anchor tattoos. I will be in the chair shortly.

p.s. found a shot of one of 3, 1/2 lap pulls I did yesterday. Trying to give my buddy, Jim (6-8 wheels back in this shot) a break from pulling the whole damn race. No one wants to see the wind, I guess. This was at about 26mph into a slight headwind. The back straight was much better, slight tailwind = 30+mph peloton.

Get better you two!

UPS just dropped off my two sets of Mavic pedals. They are very impressive looking.

I'll put some miles on them tomorrow and report back.

Got mine around 11 this morning and I have 40 miles on them, the performance is as impressive as the look. Very solid feeling when clipped in.

Nagrom_ 01-14-13 07:30 PM

Awesome, I can't wait to try mine.

Dannihilator 01-14-13 07:56 PM

Even after putting 40 miles in, I still had an itch to ride, so put in a productive session on the dmr.

Mumonkan 01-14-13 08:07 PM

you guys are making me want to buy pedals i dont need.

today i made this chorizo, black bean, basmati rice and cheese chimichanga with avocado on the side and ate the **** out of it.

Muffin Man 01-14-13 08:12 PM

Wow that looks good.

Dannihilator 01-14-13 08:20 PM

The one thing I did notice today was that while it is fun to go fast on the 930, there's just something when booking it on the dmr.

Nagrom_ 01-14-13 08:34 PM

Dude, this mexican joint in Downtown SL makes the best chorizo burrito on the gottdam planet.
