Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

In the Netherlands the car is always wrong.

If you, riding your bike, minding your bussiness, ignore to give a car right of way and he hits you. It's his fault. Ofcourse that's rule doesn't apply to every extend, but it does to a bit too much I think...

citys are for bikes.

america just hasn't realized this yet...

dude stopped in front of a bus station double parked taking up the left most lane and the parking lane. the parking lane shares a 'sharrows' bike lane.

tons of cars honked at him and mergeswerved around him.

i did the same, but i also spanked his passenger mirror as i rode by.

few blocks later dude cuts me off nearly runs over me and throws a crushed empty beer can at me, hitting me in the chest. he yells "you like hitting mother****er's cars? to which i replied... you can't park in the street and spit on his window. i chased him but he got away, darting across four lanes and turning on a red without stopping.

**** can get way out of hand very easily. i need to work on keeping my anger/righteousness in check. dude totally deserved the mirror slap(didn't hurt the mirror at all and i knew what i was doing so as to cause no damage) but if he was any drunker/stupider/angrier i could have been aunt jemimas mancake syrup

Bikes: fixed gear recumbent trike

sounds like my wed at pike/12th... i caught up to the dood as he was stopped at a light and gave him a "dexter" look and he lifted his arms up at me like i was a chump... skidded to a stop and he then pretended to be on the phone.... i REALLLLLLY wanted to tell him his tail light was out

Sounds like a lot of you are just begging for trouble. Over the years I have developed a confident and aggressive riding style, but I avoid self-righteous riding behaviors and minimize confrontations with motorists as much as possible, and when it is reasonably safe to do so, I obey traffic laws when other traffic is present. I don't recall having been honked at, yelled at, or swerved at in years. You basically get what you ask for. If you ride like you are minding your own business you may still see stupid, reckless driving behavior, but it is far less likely to be directed toward you.

I'm just not a confrontational person so I don't get a lot of flack out there, but the times I have reacted it came right back at me. They're always right, you're always wrong - from their perspective. But of course, riding in the city I cannot avoid the occasional encounter with a real grade-A jackass. I hope my size has some intimidation factor.
