Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Wow, makes me feel a lot better about living in a small city. Most people I know seem to blame cars for being irresponsible on the road 99% of the time, but apparently cyclists and pedestrians are just as guilty. If only everyone was slightly less selfish and more alert..

That was pretty tame compared to my old morning commute, actually.

But yeah, that truck u-turn was great. Reminds me of the time I watched a similar bigass truck back up through an entire city block to park outside a store he had passed.

Whew, you gotta be brave to get around in NYC in ANY way.

Makes me kinda glad to live in the south in a way. People do look at me like I'm some kind of wizard for riding in busy roads, but this does cause them to give me PLENTY of room and right of way, even when I quite frankly don't deserve it.

Yeah my friend showed me that video. You've gotta be ******** to ride brakeless in NYC. I gotta say, the worst kind of accident you can get into are versus pedestrians. I got clipped by one dude jaywalking when the light was green and I flew and hurt my hip pretty bad. I wasn't angry at him until he tried to topsy-turvy it on me. If my hip didn't hurt like hell I would've kicked him in the head.

I'm going to NYC in July and I'll be lucky if I don't get hit by a cyclist/car (we'll be walking most of the time).

All of the pedestrians within the crosswalks had the right of way. NY state law says yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk.

Incorrect. The road belongs to me and I have right of way at all times.

Nothing sucks more than cars that don't feel that bikes deserve to be on the road. Except maybe bikers feeling a sense of entitlement to the entire road.

I was vaguely referring to the ones standing idly in the crosswalk, and the ones walking in strange arcs outside the painted lines. Does that law apply in all states? I've assumed it's in the books here in Cali but I'm not certain.

Yuck.

I was in Portland last month and was totally shocked at how courteous all the drivers were. Yielded to pedestrians and bikers even when they had the right of way! It was crAaaAaaAAaaAzy.

Haha, its odd, I walk around NYC all the time and all of this is like.. normal to me.

It seems to be normal for most of the people in the video too. Notice how the pedestrians barely react when cars aggressively yield, don't yield at all, or when a bike passes through them haha.
