Non spandex riders, what's your gear?
I am not into the super tight jean cutoffs thing. It is not really my style, but I am definitley not a spandex guy. I like to commute on my bike and ride around town to bars, parks, stores..etc and not have shirts covered in sweat.
So far I have been wearing army surplus cammo pants I cutoff for shorts and they work great since they have a lot of pockets and are pretty grime resistant. But I am always down for more ideas for shorts.
My main want is some good shirts. I have a vented Dakine MTB shirt that is frankly awesome for riding..super easy to cool down and you are not bathing in your own sweat when it's 90 outside. Only thins is that it is a MTB shirt and is not exactly the most urban gear in the world..figured I would see if you fellas had any good shirts that you like to wear.

My roommate wears his rugby jerseys when he rides. Only thing is they ride up in the back, which cycling jerseys are designed to prevent. I just wear sleeveless t-shirts or a cycling jersey. I live in FL, so either I wear the jersey or deal with being wet 24/7. The only alternative would be to buy some sort of athletic wear, which I wouldn't be able to justify because I could get a jersey designed for cycling for the same price.
As far as shorts go, I usually wear... shorts.

I use patagonia capilene shirts for kicking around town in, usually I'll keep a regular shirt in my bag to change into when I get wherever I'm heading to.
They're a little $$ but worth it, IMO.

Anything less than 10-15 miles and I just go in whatever I'm wearing. Longer than that and it's what I'm normally wearing but with a moisture-wicking shirt. I wear a baseball cap everywhere I go and usually just wear my normal sunglasses, a pair of wayfarers. I have been falling in love with snapbacks lately though. Been rocking a Montreal Expos snapback lately.

I love riding around in full zip jerseys, even if I'm wearing regular shorts on bottom. They breathe so well, and you can unzip the front if you're still hot. Plus, the back pockets hold lots of stuff! I need to grab a couple more jerseys.

Yes..awesome ideas all around. The next thing is finding the best deals on these different jerseys on the web. Is Dept of Goods one of the better options? I am definitely not opposed to a cool cycling jersey that is also something I could casually wear while at a bar. I am talking daytime drinking situations where you are in shorts and generally a lot more casual. This way I dont need to bring a bag and I just have been putting my ulock in the back of my shorts when I ride.

It's going to be hard to find a wicking shirt that looks decent. However, those golf polos might be a good option and can be had for cheap at places like tjmaxx.

True. I think I could rock a good cycling jersey though. I think it could actually be pretty cool for a daytime hangout. Better than being in a wet cotton Tee, thats for sure.

"Urban" is pretty loosely defined, although you might find a few acceptable options here. I saw they have a techwick polo shirt for about $35, plus if you're ok with plaid, there are a few options in short sleeve that appear to be made of moisture wicking synthetic fibers.

Also, wearing an actual cycling jersey when you're just hanging out is going to look weird.

i'm not a spandex guy either, so i wear some baggy but very short shorts so my junk hangs out the leg opening. if those are all at the cleaners, i prefer shorts or knickers with liner shorts underneath. i really wish i knew how forgiving chamois is on the nether regions a looooong time ago. swrve makes a kick-ass bamboo t-shirt. it is wicking, naturally anti microbial so it won't get funky with b.o., and they are longer in the back so your coinslot doesn't show while you're in the drops.

Does anyone know if people make running shorts (or any kind of loose-fitting synthetic wicking shorts) with zippered pockets? I have a pair of running shorts that have pockets, but I'd be afraid of my phone or my wallet falling out of my pocket while riding.

i ride in gym shorts all the time.. haven't had a problem with stuff falling out of the pockets. but riding with heavy stuff in them like a phone or wallet kinda sucks because they can flop around a lot especially when spinning
