That is way to big of a ratio for any type of riding...but to answer the meat of your question: a bigger ring and cog will make your chain last longer and put less friction on your drivechain.

Dude asked the same question in the 'Ask Scrod' thread. Apparently I'm supposed to be on the forum 24 hours a day and never sleep.

Should I attempt to convince Angie not to build a set of white Velocity Fusions for her Vigorelli? As played out as white rims are in 2013, I can honestly see them looking really good.

When I said "White rims, really???", she responded by saying she knows how much of a faux pas they are but that it might be cool to pay homage to something that was once all the rage in a tasteful way - which I've got an understanding for. Also, Canadian women are extremely stubborn.

Dude.... pink leopard print stickers...

Scrodzilla 02-26-13 06:54 PM

Oh yeah. Hahahaha!

bwilli88 02-26-13 07:18 PM

But Scrod, you are everywhere on this forum, thanks for the answer, as I live in Cambodia and do not have much internet time, I thought I would go right to the knowledge source.

You should respond better to the signal.

Sheesh.

So Should I buy that bike?

Hell no. Electroforged schwinns have more value as scrap. I don't know the cambodian used market, but you MUST be able to do better than that.

Sweet, let me guess it's a white vigorelli? Yes a white wheelset is very distasteful on an already white-enough bike, might as well put a nail in the coffin and throw a white crankset on it as well...

Silver would be a nicer alternative. Maybe try to convince her to get something high polished?

Get with the times, man. Giro Pink.

She's thinking all black parts with white Fusions to correspond with the big white logos on the down tube.

Ohh the vigorosa... just no.

Leukybear 02-26-13 07:38 PM

Well it could be worse.... she could choose pink rims...

Scrodzilla 02-26-13 07:38 PM

I do think it will look pretty good and she knows what's up. It's not like she wants gold Formation Faces or something.

Scrodzilla 02-26-13 08:17 PM

No way. I know she hates pink rims.

bwilli88 02-26-13 10:42 PM

This would be for a beater in the states when I get back in May until Aug.

And the Cambodian new market is way over priced Giants or used Japanese girls bikes with a few hybrids thrown in.

SSbalt 02-26-13 10:43 PM

Should I pick this up? I've always entertained the idea of getting some rollers...

http://martinsburg.craigslist.org/bik/3634971229.html

$30 bucks - could probably offer $20

Dannihilator 02-26-13 10:45 PM

Should I order one?

Nagrom_ 02-26-13 10:45 PM

Do it. Looks like they need a band though.

It's not cheap, but I do have a crankset/bb and pedals that can be used. Would just need a suspension fork, wheels, and post, stem, saddle, deraillieur, shifter, chainguide, cassette.
