Should I watch the original Battlestar Galactica or the remake first? I watched the first couple episodes of the original but it is so hokey. Important decisions.

Don't bother with the original, just watch the remake.

Scrodzilla 04-15-14 03:59 PM

That's like saying I should trade my '75 Raleigh Pro Track for a 2013 Rush Hour.

The original is a classic!

What if you took like 5 min to actually show us the actual color with a impage sample of each one made in gimp ( free software ), or photoshop ( casked version ) or even paint with the right #RBG color code.

I've been looking for an SSCX bike and noticed the Fantom Cross Uno and the Nashbar SSCX are both around $400.

There's plenty to read on the FCU, but there isn't much on the Nashbar SSCX on bikeforums -- any opinions on choosing one over the other?

Nashbar Single-Speed Cyclocross Bike

Fantom Cross UNO

I'll throw the Gravity Liberty CX into the mix only because it's the same price and I have the option to convert it or do a 1x8 if I wanted to.

thanks!

Did you mean to ask a question or are you a time traveller with the means to go back and undo this mistake?

Excellent tale, chap!

Need a lil help, please…

Since I got rid of my road bike I’ve been using my Italian semi-vintage, steel frame, full-on track bike as my everyday, big miles, and fast road group ride bike. I ride it brakeless with tarck drops around the neighborhood and styling on social rides. When I want to commute or do long distance with the roadies on it, I swap to semi-pursuit bars and clamp on a front brake. Due to an unfortunate incident this past weekend I have to replace my bullhorns.

ATM, I am seriously considering going with a compact drop bar and hooded levers for riding this bike with a brake. But I am worried that running such a set-up on a true pista…will not only look ridiculous but also be an affront to the track bike gods ;)

Should I do it?

bmontgomery87 05-12-14 07:34 AM

^^
All I got from that story is that you had an accident/crash riding bullhorns w/ a brake.
The accident did not happen while riding brakeless with drops.

I think you see where I'm going with this.

prooftheory 05-12-14 07:43 AM

Just put a cross brake on the flats. The track bike gods are benevolent and do not demand human sacrifice.

My bike isn't built with track geo so I'm not affending the TBGs. Drop bars and brakes are good riding with a spirited group of geared road bikes. Ride what makes sense for the conditions. I gave up on the "looking ridiculas" concern a long time ago.

Should I snag a set of phils to open pros for 400? Just kidding yes.

seau grateau 05-16-14 04:26 AM

Do they come with rim tape?

Huge Zits 05-29-14 12:56 PM

I have spent $300 on parts (great deals) for a track bike on the velodrome. I just need a frameset, headset, and seatpost. Should I get a Kilo TT frame or a more track racing specific frame? I'd like to keep it as close to $600 (or less) as possible.

prooftheory 05-29-14 03:15 PM

You should not get the kilo tt frame. It is only a great deal as a complete. Buy a bare knuckle or a big block.

Jared. 05-29-14 05:08 PM

I'm very happy with my Dolan Pre Cursa. $350 for frame, fork, headset, seatpost, seatpost collar.

*It's an entry level frameset, but works perfectly for what I want out of it.

pwebb 07-17-14 11:04 PM

I found a guy selling a 56cm (custom geo, they normally do 55cm or 57cm) Low// pursuit bike. I'm 85% sure the 56cm would fit me better than either the 55 or 57, which makes me think I should jump on it. Bike has never been built-up and he's asking $800 for frame + alpina fork.

Should I buy it to try out alu frame/carbon fork track bike or should I wait for something else? After having ridden only steel I'm curious about the alu/carbon combo (weight, responsive front end, snappy back end) and am thinking that although $800 is a lot, the frame will retain it's resale value if I don't like it. Best case the GEO is perfect, worst case I have to re-sell it.

What do you folks think? Worth the $800 flier? I'm pretty sure that due to my location (Oakland, bay area) and what Low// is asking from new buyers (4 month wait, $1200 for frame only) that $800 for frame & fork ain't really that much to ask for from a lightly used Low// frame if it comes to that.

I would go for it. You'll have no problems flipping it should the fit not be what you're looking for. I don't know how you intend to use the frame, but keep in mind that Low's geometry is just that: long and low. Great for racing, too aggressive for tooling around town IMHO.

The ride quality is going to be noticeably different than steel but not having ridden a LOW I can't speculate how it falls on the spectrum of alu frames.

Should I replace my 1" threaded fork with a threadless one?

Is there something wrong with the current fork? Seems like money for no gain if there's nothing wrong with what you have.

Drastry 07-18-14 09:59 AM

I guess not. I just want to reassemble my bike so bad :D

GhostSS 07-21-14 10:31 PM

Should I get 80's Gipiemme Crono Special pedals on modern carbon frame? Wanted something blingier than the MKS Urban but without the Yacht Club prices of the White Industries Urban Platforms or overpriced vintage Campy Triomph/Athena's.

IAmSam 09-20-14 02:35 PM

Once again, I am trying to get to work on my long-delayed new wheelset project and would like to order parts by Mon AM before I lose my focus

At present am 160 lbs, vary between 150-165...depending, use my fixed bike as a 1-gear road bike, it is flat here, road surface conditions can be problematic but no huge potholes, am a spinner, try to fight weight-weenie tendencies but they are always lurking, so...

Dare I try doing 20/24 spoke wheels? Rims ala Kinlin XR-200 (or 270 if anyone persuades me to be slightly more logical) with low flange hubs?

Or would it be all that much stronger/safer to go with 24/28?
