Thanks man. Sincerely. That is the kind of response that I appreciate.
Yes it points out my shortcomings but it's not disrespectful. I post a lot because I'm at work and this is one of the few sites that isn't blocked. I'll try to post less though. Didn't realize. Thanks. |

Ban?
I don't get this place sometimes. I use the "Should I" thread properly, instead of starting a new thread. This because I've been asked (told) to do so by a handful of people here who get really bent out of shape by such things... Someone disagrees with me (no trouble there) but does so in a very condescending way. So I reciprocate that attitude, and suddenly I'm being warned about a possible ban. cc700 could've made his point without being rude. But chose not to take that path. It was done anyways, but then Jaytron revives it by coming at me (rudely and in a personal manner). And like I said, suddenly I'm the one who is being threatened with a ban. |

Should I ride around downtown Toronto tomorrow, sightseeing/learning to get around, or should I ride to the "beach" (it's in quotation marks because I'm used to the beach meaning sand and ocean)?
You guys really let me down. |

sorry for the being of the rudez, hokay friends now everybody happydance
i should also clarify that the reason i was being mad anger was because i loved both of my andel cranksets and thought they were both great buys, and i paid over 100 for each, so the idea that someone thinks 125 is overpriced just because the walmart of fixies is selling them for less, well, it got to me. i should have been nicer about it. and before anyone else says it, yes i know that walmart is now the walmart of fixies. Jared... i hope you got a Zen ring. I'm saving up for my first Zen ring. I hear it's worth it. Zen ring, super toughness chain, phil cog. |
john hates his phil cog
|
probably because he isn't using said other magic things with it.
also, should i get a militis3 and put something other than DA9000 11 on it? |

Is that normal? Word on the street is that Phil cogs are uber silent. Any truth to that? |

Should I do anything special (grease?) when installing/using 25.4-26.0 Nitto bar shims?
Don't want to scrape up the bars, and don't want any noise or slippage. Plan is to use the shim with the various 26.0 stems I have, then buy a 25.4 stem to fit the bars once I decide which one works best w the new bars. |
Grease defeats the purpose of the texture the shim has.

Understood. That's kinda what I thought but I've seen suggestions on the web to grease them to prevent seizing and creaking. Thanks for the clarification.
Also, then you can swap bars around later down the line. |

Alternatively, just get the proper size stem/clamp/bars and you don't have to worry about it at all.

Should I put my two week notice in today and hope for a real job at a real bike shop next summer?

There's nothing wrong with shims. 31.8mm is what I usually aim for with my choice of stem when avail. and I have a collection of shims to use interchangeably need be. After all, shims are ~$10 a set (minus nitto's obviously) vs. a stems that cost a whole lot more.
|
They kinda make me feel dirty. I'd prefer a clean/direct fit (eventually).
Hard to believe six tenths of a mm can cause such a ruckus. :p |
should i:

if you don't have shorts, that's the most important thing for longer rides imo
shorts > bars > bottle holder > stem > jersey > boutique bottle |
i think the most important thing for longer rides is cash or a card that works. then you just ride. ride until you need to stop to eat or drink or get a bus back because you have nothing left.
get alluh that stuff AFTER you start realizing which is worse- your taint or your sweat glands. |

though i think the shorts/jersey option might win, my taint region started to go numb at the 50 mile mark last week and that was kinda scary wish the road shoes i wanted were cheaper too .. |
feel like running a brake tonight for Mass but I don't have any levers at the moment.
Should I do just one cross lever? or one cane creek scr-5? or two cane creek scr 5? i'm kind of playing with the possibility of having hoods on my bike all the time even though i ride brakeless |
one hood looks dumb
|
its all dumb, buy a car
