Should I buy an aerospoke or will I be made fun of, I found one for 150 on craigslist.

GMJ 12-08-12 06:49 PM

I've wanted to get into mountain biking. My roommate has this, pretty much unused.

Buy it and flip it. I think aerospokes look cool, so I would probably keep it. Don't expect it to earn any cred with the trackies though.

Nagrom_ 12-08-12 06:51 PM

Hell yeah.

Disc or V brakes?

What kind of riding?

GMJ 12-08-12 09:03 PM

Disc. Just regular ol' trail riding. The only places to ride that I know of around here are some simple singletracks. I would love to eventually get technical, but I consider this a starting point.

ddeadserious 12-09-12 04:57 PM

Well crap.

Mumonkan 12-10-12 10:50 PM

should i buy a used gruppo from ebay for my roadbike project?

anything i should be wary of when buying a whole set?

Nagrom_ 12-10-12 10:52 PM

Which groupset?

Mumonkan 12-10-12 11:30 PM

im not really sure to be honest, i was just looking at prices and saw that new stuff costs as much (+) my whole bike i have now so, trying to avoid that.

You can always give microshift shot, I've been hearing nothing but good stuff about them.

Nonetheless, DA 7800 is a good place to start in the 2nd hand market for a top notch group.

Mumonkan 12-11-12 12:01 AM

call me vain, but im not terribly fond of the looks of most of the shimano stuff, microshift looks kinda similar

Muffin Man 12-11-12 12:10 AM

Sram is nice.

Not in this case.

Adrian_ 12-11-12 09:11 AM

Get a 5500, 6500, or 7700 group they pop up all the time and cost 400 at most. These came out before shimano started making everything fugly. Just make sure its in good condition. I have a friend thats selling a full 105 5500 group in almost new condition fo 175! Thats an amazing price!

Mumonkan 12-11-12 11:24 AM

Im not too concerned with models at this point since i havent really started researching stuff

im mostly just wondering if buying a used gruppo is a good idea or not, more moving parts than im used to

if it helps im leaning towards something more modern like sram however

Adrian_ 12-11-12 02:42 PM

Sram groups aren't as common in the used market as Shimano or Campy. Buying used is a good idea but make sure it's not to worn.

Or crashed.

FakeFuji 12-11-12 03:37 PM

Threads are always what scare me off of buying used parts
