|
I've wanted to get into mountain biking. My roommate has this, pretty much unused.

Disc. Just regular ol' trail riding. The only places to ride that I know of around here are some simple singletracks. I would love to eventually get technical, but I consider this a starting point.

Nonetheless, DA 7800 is a good place to start in the 2nd hand market for a top notch group. |
call me vain, but im not terribly fond of the looks of most of the shimano stuff, microshift looks kinda similar
|
Sram is nice.

Get a 5500, 6500, or 7700 group they pop up all the time and cost 400 at most. These came out before shimano started making everything fugly. Just make sure its in good condition. I have a friend thats selling a full 105 5500 group in almost new condition fo 175! Thats an amazing price!
|
Im not too concerned with models at this point since i havent really started researching stuff
im mostly just wondering if buying a used gruppo is a good idea or not, more moving parts than im used to if it helps im leaning towards something more modern like sram however |
Sram groups aren't as common in the used market as Shimano or Campy. Buying used is a good idea but make sure it's not to worn.

Threads are always what scare me off of buying used parts
