okay, just to shut max down - you can't put a shimano 600 double on a 103 bb and expect it to work. the chainring "holders"/"teeth"/place that the inner ring braces against would hit the chainstay if you did 103mm.
@Danzax: i'll check the bb, but i'm pretty darn sure i put it in correctly. adjustable cup on non drive side, right?
edit: well i'll be damned. this is what i get for teaching myself how to fix bikes, and assuming new parts follow old-school rules. some bottom brackets have the adjustable cup on the drive side.
double edit: i was so curious i just stripped my bike in ten minutes. un57 has "L" and "R" printed with arrows. Had it installed correctly. oh well.
