Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

A valid criticism, but it is a fallacy to assume that just because people like bikes, and like to talk about them with each other either in-person or online, that they have nothing else going on in their lives.

One can love bikes and still be very much grounded in the axes of politics and culture.
I really do enjoy the tech talk and what have you, I truly do find all information interesting and useful but when people start talking about feelings and intimacy with their bikes that's where I draw the line. That and the whole lifestyle aspect of it. I longboard but I don't cruise around town on a 350$ dropspeed board going slow as hell on sidewalks I drive up to a remote area with friends and do runs that hit speeds up to 80km/h. In the same right I don't ride my bike with a messenger bag around town with no helmet or breaks; I ride 20km a day and usually do a good 30km ride on weekends early in the morning. I love my sports and hobbies but I certainly despise the lifestyle that people try to create around them.

I've been wondering for a while or not whether Macri is a troll or just awkward. . .

I think, given my general disposition, that I would probably think longboarding is lame as hell. However, a lot of my friends longboard, and it's a lot like riding a track bike: no brakes, bombing hills, generally chillin. I've had many a good "ride" accompanied by nothing but longboarders

Why come to a bicycle forum to talk **** on people who like bikes? Nothin wrong with talking about bikes.

on a different, yet related noted. After riding fixed/ss for a couple years on two different bikes, i would say saddle position matters most to me. (i'm no Carleton, but that is my thought)

well recently at work i finished all of my projects for the contract / internship so instead of asking for more work to do i just kind of post on like six different forums and as you can imagine i get entirely too bored. no one ever comes into my office and their are filters on the internet but strangely they don't sniff any ports or monitor much so this is my new job. kthx

Boredom, its a killer.

Suggestion to MACRI: buy a set of rollers and ride your bike in your office instead of sitting still, the looks on your co-workers' faces would be worth the cost of a set or Kreitlers.

Cheers

Or get a treadmill and ride your longboard on it.
