GoPro HD Videos Thread

I am borrowing my step-dads GoPro, and have made a few videos with it. Obviously a lot of things could be addressed, and until I switch over to an iMac I won't be editing the video's much, but I wanted to get some interesting shots.

The first video:
:has the camera mounted to the handlebars with some extensions to bring it right above the front tire. I thought it would be an interesting perspective, but only having the brake levers, as well as the top of the front tire as reference points, it makes for a pretty lack luster shot.

The second video:
:has the camera mounted to the seatpost, and I slid my computer back, thinking it would be in the shot, but realized it wasn't when I got home! (thinking of getting the LCD screen for it)

Now, I think that the shot from the second video, with bibs (no shorts getting into the shot), and the cyclo-computer in the shot would make for a pretty good angle. I also have the Helmet mount (which straps into the vents) which would give a view of what I see, but might be too heavy for a longer ride... I could try out the chest strap, or the camera angled down to see my face, or maybe a shot on the handlebars looking at me? I'm just trying to get suggestions, see what I can come up with, and just get back into videography in general.

Note: I realize that unless something exciting happens on the ride, or I am riding down a trail, the video can get quite boring. I'm definitely not going to film an entire Metric Century, but I'll definitely get some interesting shots along the way. We've tried hooking it up to my fiancees wheelchair, which can be quite entertaining, as well as the dog...

Great videos! That video of you and your fiance is just romantic, I really like how you took the controls of her wheelchair; I saw it as the equivalent of holding hands and walking together, especially with the angle and placement of the camera situated between you guys.
I'm tempted now to get one myself. But I have a feeling a new/ better model is due to come out soon considering how long the current hd hero? has been out; hint hint*

I started this thread more or less to get input on different places to mount it to/best shots...

First video was mounted via handlebar mount, connected to like 5 adapters. I was trying to place it close to the front wheel... it didn't work out as good as I had hoped.
Second video was mounted with the same handlebar mount only attached to the seatpost. it's basically directly mounted, so you get a lot of the seat sounds, and vibrations through the bike. The drivetrain isn't silent, but its definitely amplified when you connected a camera directly to the frame.

In the future I'll ex-nay the audio but any more suggestions as to its location?

For reference:

Lower fork leg, chainstay/seatstay, helmet, Stick out of backpack above head... get creative.

My buddy and I both have old crappy helmet cams and occasionally make dumb videos using duct tape and a ghetto mount (chunk of bent aluminium bolted to a hockey helmet).

Can't wait to upgrade to a go-pro.

is it possible to mount it far enough back on the chainstay to not be looking at just your foot the whole time?

Camera too big, as well as 725 = Toobz not ment for mounts.

How about the top toob facing down towards the BB shell? You could see the road and your cranks spinning. Not sure if that would give a great view but I'm just spitting out ideas.

The helmet cam is HEAVY... Would not be able to ride long with that thing strapped to my dome. But it does make for a good shot

yes, would shoot for a more aggressive angle where it feels like you're actually riding.

I never seem to like the videos where there is no reference points (i.e. whatever its fixed to)... unless the video includes something interesting to watch (i.e. trail riding, bmxing, accidents)

I think having a chest mount would be the best, tho @ $40 it really doesn't seem worth it. the brassknuckle has rounder tubes than the 725, but there girth is too wide for the handlebar mount. I just might have to come up with my own mounts.

Totally sounds like a remote control car haha. I might have to experiment with speeding up the video and or adding music. Whats the general consensus for cutting the footage audio and adding a song?

Sounds good to me. Just don't make the music too overpowering, we want to focus on the video, not the song.
