I found a pretty good deal on a Deep V to DA hub on craigslist. The dood says the axle is shot and needs replacing. Assuming everything else is good about the wheel/hub, is it worth buying and replacing the axle?

I have never replaced an axle before.

Replacing the axles on DA hubs is no trouble at all if you've got a decent set of cone wrenches. If you buy them, let me know if you have any trouble finding a DA axle set. I can get my hands on them easily.

Bearings are a little harder to come by, and not as cheap. Depending on what is wrong with axle the bearings may also be shot.

DA 7710/7600 front hubs use standard 3/16" bearings, 11 per side.

If you have the money, it's a really good deal and a great frame.

Is there a chainring that's black, and looks similar to the one that comes on the Omniums, but is 49t?

pink lizardskins, pink tires, future pink godzilla.

it's obvious dave is in a color mode right now.

scrod, do you use and abuse your bikes or are you more of a baby-er? I remember you were upset about that first paint chip on the kagero.

what about the bareknuckle made you want one so much? I don't know much about the frame, is the tubing top notch or something?

I'm not building a BK, I went for the Godzilla.

Both frames are made of nice tubing and of exceptional quality, IMO.

I definitely use, not abuse. I was super bummed about that first chip, especially considering the bull**** way it happened.

I like to keep my bikes nice, but they're bikes.

Kaisei 22 is basically another name for the discontinued Ishiwata 022 - which in the mid/late 80s was considered comparable to Reynolds 501 or Columbus SL tubing. I've read things saying that frames built of such tubesets are better suited for riders weighing less than 175 lbs so hopefully it doesn't crumble underneath me.

I'll be doing a little more research and if it doesn't seem like a good choice for a sasquatch like myself, I may end up with a BK after all. Which is fine because I've always has a thing for oversized steel tubes.
