How do you calculate spoke length? Is that something sheldon brown would have?

Does adding up TT and stem length accurately add up how much reach you have?

Scrod,

I see you ride with toe clips/straps. Why do you prefer them over velcro straps? Just kind of looking for the pro/cons.

Dave, should I buy this: https://www.bikesdirect.com/incredibl..._framesets.htm

used as a beater bike. I'm short on funds though. Part of me says its a good idea so that I'll have a bike I can ride in the rain and all that bull****, but another part of me says I'll drop more money into it than it's worth. It is crmo though, but I'm going to have to buy or find more than half of the components that it doesn't come with.

Apartments dumpsters have been more lucrative for me than bike shop dumpsters. It takes a LOT of peeking on a daily basis 'til you find one, though. Sometimes bike shops with a busy repair business will have stuff that folks left behind so you should ask them what they have for cheap. Some C&V dudes are actually able to cruise bike heaps in their local landfills. A lot of areas will have one day a year where you can huck your large trash out on your lawn and the city will come by and grab it. This can also be a goldmine.

The absolute best for me has been my local Salvation Army. $10-30 bikes that I spy on the day before half price day, get there when doors open and rejoice.

That's because it's the Bay Area and anything not nailed to the ground gets stolen, broken down, and sold at swap meets. :|

Nope. I did for a long time but quit about 5 years ago. It wasn't difficult at all...I just decided I didn't want to smoke anymore, so I didn't.

Whenever I see someone struggling with quitting smoking, I really don't understand. All it takes is some discipline.

Another thing that made it easy is the realization of the industry I was helping to support, how much money it cost me and what I was potentially doing to my own body. I'm a tough mother****er and I'll be damned if something as stupid as cigarettes would be the thing that brings me down.
