been trying to wrap my head around affordable 700c wheelsets with the lightest possible weight. recommendations? dp18's arent that light from what i heard, and there are just too many versions of the same brand wheel out there to really decipher whats what. so for lets say under 175 what sets would be in my best interest?

thanks
Justin

Scrodzilla 10-03-11 08:59 AM

DP18s aren't the heaviest rims out there but definitely aren't light.

Under $175 may be tough because even if you find a wheelset with relatively light rims, they'll most likely be overbuilt using heavy straight-gauge spokes. If you want really light wheels, having a set of KinLins built using nice double-butted spokes is a great option.

I didn't know you did that. Makes me feel better about the hazing.

Dear Scrod,

Can you give me some good songs to jam too while getting in the zone for a swim meet/race?

Call me corny, but there's nothing wrong with Cake's "The Distance" or Eminem's "Lose Yourself" to get pumped up. Oh and don't forget about "Fred Bear" by the Nuge.

/definitely not scrod

You're not alone on that one buddy.

homebrewk 10-03-11 01:55 PM

Scrod,

I'm tired of trying to find an avatar that I like. Will you please give me one for me to use for two weeks? Your choice on what it is, but keep it reasonable though.

homebrewk 10-03-11 01:57 PM

This is gonna be good.

jimmytango 10-03-11 01:58 PM

This is gonna be awesome. I want one too haha.

homebrewk 10-03-11 02:03 PM

I wanted to do it in the "New Avatar" thread but I didn't want to find it.

Dear Scrod,

I want to get a carbon fork for my visp which comes with a steel/alum fork. stock rake is 43mm, how would putting the leader I05tr with a 30mm rake on my frame affect how the bike rides? the visp supposedly has track geometry.

thanks!

homebrewk 10-03-11 06:19 PM

Just for the record here is a carbon fork with your proper rake on Nashbar:

http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...0052_515806_-1

It's about the same price as an I05tr too.

Oh I've seen a bunch of forks I like already I was just curious what changing the rake would do. thanks though :)

Scrodzilla 10-03-11 06:55 PM

What's the head tube angle on your Visp?

Scrod,

Do you have a suggestion for a cool hooded windbreaker that won't break the bank like the chrome and mission workshop stuff would?

max5480 10-03-11 11:38 PM

hey Scrod,
Can we go shopping together! My mom can pick us up and take us to the mall!

CJWIZVRDGVNG 10-03-11 11:39 PM

Scrod,

Off the idea of "can i get this bike under 20 lbs," Do you think it would be possible to get my bike under 20 lbs? It sits at 21 1/2ish lbs right now. If I were to tackle that extra 700 grams, what's the best place to go? My parts are all listed on my pedalroom (link in sig). My first guess would be fork, then crankset, then seat post. I'd probably scrounge eBay for parts since I'm sure buying new would be unnecessarily expensive.
