Dan, I have a feeling you'll go as hard as you possibly can regardless of what I say. :D

I recently got an 44T 130BCD chainring, but I am finding it a bit on the noisy side (it's 3/32") on my single speed.

Scrodzilla 09-12-12 09:41 PM

3/32" stuff is usually quieter. Is your chain too tight?

Dannihilator 09-12-12 09:48 PM

Would a glow in the dark paint job make my 930 jackass?

3/32" chainring, 1/8" chain (KMC K710SL) WI freewheel. I made sure my chain isn't binding but with minimal slack. Actually quited down when I took a little slack out.

First of all, you ship realllllly fast. Second, how do you service GR-9 bearings? They feel a little on the dry side, and I feel like greasing them up would only do good.

Basilios 09-13-12 06:03 AM

Thinking about going clipless. Any recommendations for a good set of pedals and shoes?

Getting the little plastic end cap off without destroying it is a nightmare. MKS does make replacements though.

No! I think it would be awesome.

What are your thoughts on Hydra Head Records folding? If you have any.

Scrodzilla 09-13-12 08:08 AM

When I sang for Cave In back in 1997-98, we were signed to HH and I was pretty good friends with Aaron Turner. He would always come on tours with us and it was a lot of fun. Over the years, they've taken on way more than they could handle and got themselves into a pretty big mess financially. It's a bummer to see a label that is important to a lot of people go belly up but at least they have the sense enough to know when to call it quits.

chi0dos 09-13-12 08:51 AM

Cave In!? Really! Damn Scrod haha

dignandag 09-13-12 09:54 AM

i don't know a whole lot about cave in...i only have jupiter, but i love that album.

i know Jupiter was after you, but how do you feel about the significant shift in style from Until Your Heart Stops?

I'd like to piggyback my question on this one. I need to get a new pair of shoes that are pretty much solely going to be used for bike riding. When not on my bike I'm either in dress shoes (work) or a pair of Vibram barefoot shoes. Neither of these are very good on the bike. I'm not planning on going clipless yet, but I may at some point in the future. Would it be better to buy a pair of shoes like Chrome or DZR and use them with my regular pedals and straps for now (but be ready for clipless pedals in the future), or should I just buy a pair of regular shoes (something like Vans slip-ons) for now, and worry about the clipless shoes later on down the road?

It's what caused me to leave. Most of 'Until Your Heart Stops' was written while I was still in the band.

It's also what caused me to stop listening to them.

I remember being in high school and having Until Your Heart Stops and Beyond Hypothermia on constant rotation and then I go to see them and they play what I assumed was Jupiter in nearly it's entirety. Had no clue they changed their sound completely, had no idea they had a newer album, and was pretty bummed out.

I guess my question still unanswered. Are Pake chain rings, any good?

Scrodzilla 09-13-12 03:10 PM

They're average, run-of-the-mill chainrings that are probably pretty good for the price. The ones I've seen haven't been the roundest but in some cases, you get what you pay for.

Is there something, that isn't too expensive, that you would recommend?

Scrodzilla 09-13-12 04:37 PM

EighthInch's 130bcd rings are good bang for your buck. All-City makes a decent one too.

eyeomegasquared 09-13-12 05:24 PM

Watchoo think bout stainless steel vs. aluminum rings?

Scrodzilla 09-13-12 05:29 PM

I've never ridden with a stainless chainring.

diff 09-13-12 06:44 PM

Scrod, when is your birthday?

jpsawyer 09-13-12 09:02 PM

hey Scrod,
What do you think of the Alex R450 wheelset that you are selling? They seem pretty nice for what they are. I was gonna build up a se of Velocity Aeros, but just moved somewhere nicer and can not afford to do that right now. They will most likely be an improvement over the dp18s I have on now yeah? thanks

also, what do you think of the Fyxation Comet bars? I like the shallow drop they have compared to other track bars

The R450/Formulas are nice but the AT450/Novatecs are a little nicer, lighter and have eyelets.

I recently put a set on a bike I built for a customer (even though I tried to sway him into compact drops) and while I'm not much of a fan of track drops, they seem decent.

I would go with the AT400s on your site, but prefer the look of the non machined sidewalls on the R450s. And I did not see any AT450s on your site?

Scrodzilla 09-14-12 07:25 AM

Typo. I meant AT400s.
