Hi Scrod,
I was looking for a Dimension stem and noticed a few sellers stating they are not for use with a carbon steerer (or carbon handlebars). Dimension's website says they don't recommend it. Is this a case of Dimension and the sellers being overly cautious or is there a real reason why they shouldn't be used together? I haven't seen this warning on any other stem. Thanks!

Scrod....RiBMo question...
Currently running 28c...will I sacrifice that much on puncture resistence going with 25c?
28c feels a tad sluggish, so considering 25c.

The 25 is just as puncture resistant.
Have you tried upping your psi? My 28c Rando is rated for 85psi but I typically keep about 110 in there and the ride is amazingly better.

could be a dumb question or I could be a dumb person... whats the significance of that bella italia saddle you got for your windsor? I picked up a bike on craigslist that had one of those (not the "condor") on it, but I just put it in the garage because I had another saddle I liked better, anyways

I wanted something vintage, semi-period correct and Italian. The Selle Italia Condor is actually a pretty rare saddle. I hope my ass gets along with it.

Scrod, I thought you were a taller dude like myself (at least you're over 6' right)? Isn't the 56 cm Windsor a little small for a 6' dude? Looks like it'll be cool though.

I'm 5'10". The Windsor's got a 56cm top tube, which will be just right.

You've recently been trying to loose a little weight.
I think your body weight is super skewed by your hair. How much do you think your hair weighs?

It will be here tomorrow! I'm going to close the shop and spend all day snuggling with it on the couch.

I learned about carbon steerers and most clamping systems on stems and seatposts a while ago, I don't remember the context but I thought it was interesting.
Apparently symmetrical clamping systems like you find on many stems and seatpost collars can cause undue pressure on a localized point of the carbon tube, leading to premature catastrophic failure. Asymmetrical systems spread the load over a greater surface area, preventing fatigue of the carbon parts. That's likely why Dimension recommended not to use their stems on carbon steer tubes. Stems with sections cut out between pinch points can also cause a failure due to point load.
Here's one explanation of the phenomenon. Also, I am RIPPED right now, hope this came across coherently.

Not sure what it all weighs but I have one dread in the back that has a circumference of nearly 8" at it's widest spot (about as big around as a beer can) and weighs nearly 200g.

Ah I see, I was figuring if the seat tube CTT was 56 (which is what I figured the 56 meant) it'd have a 54 top tube. Guess that's why I don't do it for a living like you do.

It's actually got a 55cm seat tube/56cm top tube, which will be great for me.
