Now who am I gonna ask about the most efficient way to pack/ship road bars?
More speciffically, 18X8X6 inches. Someone asked that several months ago but it's probably 50 pages back. He shipped the bars I bought from him in that size box. |

Second, I'm not going to cut my post. It's a question I didn't know the answer to. I thought it would be a good thing to know for the future. Just because I ask how tall the empire state building is, doesn't mean I'm going to jump.

To be fair, given your history, it wasn't an unreasonable assumption.

First, thanks for the easy to understand answer.

Yo Zilla, how did you go about job interviews at bike shops when you were first getting into mechanic jobs? And what would you look for now if you were going to hire a new guy at your shop. I have my first job interview as a mechanic on Thursday. I'm just scared because you know I don't know everything and I ask jackass questions some times but i'm willing to try my best to keep learning. If you can offer any advice just let me know. Edit: I asked and made sure it was okay I never worked at a shop before and she told me it's okay as long as I have a mechanic sense and know about bb's, brakes, headsets and derailleurs. I just feel a little bit overwhelmed and don't want to blow this good opportunity because i'm so nervous and undermine my mechanic ability.

Can I take an old rim with a multi speed cassette and replace that cassette with a fixed gear setup?

Surly Fixxer is your answer. They work great and easy to set up.
Just my 2 cents. |

Just my 2 cents. They're usually only used by people who want to convert a casette composite type wheel to track. |

Scrod,
Do you know anything about the Leader Renovatio? http://www.pedalconsumption.com/portfolio/renovatio/ |
Did you know your thread was "unlocked"???
|
Yes, because I asked for it to be.

Thanks. I see lot's of the same old same old, though - threads about gearing, sizing, cheapo Craigslist fixays and Kilo TTs.

Scrod, saw you have Champ grips on your Leader. Do yours get all slippery when you sweat? If my hands get all sweaty i end up grabbing the bars harder, then my hands start to hurt after awhile. I have gloves and can wear them and that fixes it, but i feel like i'm "so pro" if i'm just trying to go <10 miles with friggin gloves on. I have bullhorns, which may make the "sliding toward the ends" worse whereas you have a riser. Do they maybe get slipperier with age or something? I remember them being almost tacky when i put them on at first.
Totally fine in cool weather, however. Also i'm a sweaty fat bastard, so... |
The weather here is barely hitting 70 degrees so sweaty hands aren't quite something I have to worry about just yet.

I have a 2009 GT Gutterball with a stock aluminum fork on it - it's a harsh ride. I would like to switch out to a steel straight blade lugged fork like the one on the Retrogression website for $68.
The only info I can find on my bike for rake is 45mm - not sure if it's the same year as mine? Will the steel straight blade fork work with a 41mm rake work? I can't see 4mm changing the ride dramatically? Thanks for your help! |
Why you so sensitive, Scrod?
