What are your favorite drop bars for a 31.8 stem?

They're along the lines of either 3T ergonovas or FSA wing pros I bet; they're favorites among the majority of the cycling community

3T Ergonova or Deda RHM02.

The rearmost part of the flat section on the Wing Pro is a little too thin for my palms and digs into my hands too much unless I'm wearing gloves (which I don't like doing).

Hey Scrod,

I have a Park BBT-2 bottom bracket tool, which I've used to install my cartridge bottom brackets. Will this tool also work on a Shimano Dura Ace track octalink bottom bracket ?

Thx, TT

Scrodzilla 12-18-14 10:22 AM

The 7710? yes.

Leukybear 12-18-14 05:29 PM

Dear scrod,

I miss your exustar deluxe laminated double straps dearly and long for their return daily.

That being said, I probably should've hoarded them as I didn't appreciate them enough until they were gone. :(

You can buy them from Wabi for just $35 a pair >>> Wabi Cycles pedal options

Mumonkan 12-18-14 05:58 PM

i wanted them too and i waited until they were gone myself, that being said the ones he has now (not the toshis) are excellent

there has been a seller on ebay slingin exustars with clips for $50 and they seem to have a lot, dont know about their authenticity however

Scrodzilla 12-18-14 06:01 PM

Yeah, we were going to buy Exustar's remaining stock when they were discontinued but the numbers were way too high and they weren't interested in splitting it up. Weird.

At any rate, Wabi's got them (as TT mentioned) and Richard is a good guy. Give him your money. :)

Scrod, this is totally unrelated to cycling, but I think I remember reading in this thread about how you used to have long dreads. Why did you decide to cut them? Do you regret it? I ask because I've had mine for about ten years and they're down to my waist, and I've been thinking of cutting them. But I can't quite work up the courage to do it.

Edit: Also, while I'm at it, does Scrod refer to the white fish of the day (I used to work in a New England seafood restaurant slinging baked stuffed scrod), or something else?

Mumonkan 12-18-14 07:30 PM

true story: i had no idea wabi sold accessories like that

now i need things.

I just needed a fresh start. The dreads will be making a comeback.

Yeah, I'm the catch of the day. :D

Hey Scrod,

I had a quick question regarding a dimension for the rear Velo Orange Grand Cru track hub. Do you by any chance know the center-to-shoulder dimension (like the fixed hub dimensions on Sheldon Brown's chainline webpage)?

I see the center-to-flange dimension is 30mm, but I was curious as to the center-to-shoulder dimension so I can try and sort out chainline values before ordering parts. I contacted Velo Orange and they told me it was 44mm. That seems about 8mm too long and I may have not worded the question correctly in my email to them. Thanks a lot for your help.

Scrodzilla 12-19-14 12:03 PM

I'm confused as to why anyone would ever actually need this measurement. If you're concerned with your chainline being a few mm off from what the internet deems "perfect" (the ever-elusive 42mm), stop losing sleep over it. Considering all brands of cogs don't have the exact same tooth to shoulder dimensions, you're never going to get it 100% right.

At any rate, my digital caliper gives me close to 36mm.

BlackJoker 12-19-14 01:34 PM

Great, thanks a lot for the advice and the measurement, Scrod.

Scrodzilla 12-19-14 01:40 PM

No prob!

Philasteve 12-19-14 01:57 PM

I need to buy a whole new drivetrain for my Surly. At this point i'm pretty much just looking for the longest lasting stuff. I know it's a noob question but I've never really had a really nice crankset as a reference point. I know nothing will last the distance without care, but with that out of the equation. Will something like SRAM Omniums outlast Andels? Is the difference in price mostly geared towards performance or better machining quality/stronger/better materials that will just give you overall more life?

BrooklynTrack 12-19-14 03:13 PM

Scrod-

I'll make it fast.
Looking for a Crankset.
to add to: Steel Langster Frame, origin 8 bars, nitto stem, Miche Pistard wheels, campy seatpost I had in parts pile.

Street riding exclusively in Brooklyn (duh).

I list what I have because I don't want to have something off base with the level of the rest of the components.

Suggestions?

considering Miche Advanced
Sugino messenger or RD2 with some other ring.
(these are just what I have read about, super open to suggestions.)

Thank you

Scrodzilla 12-19-14 04:56 PM

RD2 is a good choice but 130bcd limits your chainring choices.

I'd probably go with the Miche cranks. Classic looking, 144bcd and use a reliable square-taper BB.

bwilli88 12-26-14 10:41 AM

Hey, when I start spinning my hips tend to hop, What do I need to do to stop this.

Scrodzilla 12-26-14 11:21 AM

Your crankset is likely spinning faster than your legs can move. Change your gearing.

Nagrom_ 12-27-14 01:32 AM

More likely your fit.

europa 12-27-14 03:20 AM

Could be either but most likely a crap technique ... which he won't get right until he gets the gearing and the fit sorted. Bit of a circular argument really :roflmao2:

Get your own thread. :)

Saddle height being off could contribute to you bouncing around too. The best answer (and the one you're least likely to hear) is experiment a little and figure it out yourself.

Best way to tension a chain on a SS. I noticed it was sagging a little yesterday, and clanging a bit when I would go over some bigger bumps.

Hey man, the internet seems to indicate that you've got all the answers!!

I'm a bikepolo player and I ride on a 56cm 2008 Madison. Great geometry for the sport. (provided that you slap some 165mm cranks to dodge the toeverlap)

Anywho, my frame is busted (crack on junction between headtube and downtube) and I want to replace it with an identical frame.

Do you know where to find geometry specs for the 2008?

Do you know where I could find the same 56cm frame to replace it? (I've looked all over the internet)

I got some clues from this review, but the guy doesn't specify what frame size he was riding http://www.roadbikereview.com/review...n-pro-review/3

I also found the geo for the 2013 madison here, http://pro-bike.ru/product/viewitem/?id=4360
It would lovely if they're the same.

Thanks for your time dude!

Scrodzilla 01-01-15 01:21 PM

I'm pretty sure the numbers on the 2013 Madison were different.

I had a 2008 Maddy and the most similar frame I've ridden in terms of geo is an EAI Bare Knuckle. You may want to take some measurements of your old frame and make compare it to the geo chart.

Berylbite 01-02-15 01:11 PM

Ahh I see. I've already found some differences between the 2013 and 2008, namely the wheelbase which is 968mm for the 08 vs. the 1000mm for the other.

Oddly the wheelbase isn't included in the geo chart for the Bare Knuckle. I'm sure I'll find it somewhere.

I wish there was a quick and simple way to find the specs for a variety of frames.

Thanks again for you insight.
