The last novatecs I had, different model, sounded like a lawn mower.

Scrodzilla 12-06-12 06:04 PM

Dude, this one barely makes an audible click. When turning the freehub with my hand, I think I can feel it more than I can actually hear it.

That's nuts, haha.

What does the quality look like on it? seem solid?

Scrodzilla 12-06-12 06:13 PM

Yeah, those hubs are awesome. Angie's got the same front hub on her Leader 721.

BTW - she built your front wheel today.

hairnet 12-06-12 06:15 PM

My Ultegra and Tiagra hubs are like that. Partly why I love Shimano hubs.

Sweet.

I wish my sqrl could build wheels...

+1 I don't care for loud ass freehubs.

Let me know if you have any trouble getting that wheelset. I may be able to work some magic.

got any 36h 90mm quick release front hubs with an 8mm axle(i think)? 90s seem hard to find. i could just cold set it with an allthread+nuts and that would probably be fine too but i dont really feel comfortable doing that

Scrodzilla 12-06-12 07:21 PM

I'll do some looking.

Hey Scrod I just got a ticket for riding brainless and I have to bring my bike to the station to get it written off . My question to you is what's the cheapest drilled fork that I can run on my Kagero to get this ticket written off and keep in my garage until the next time a bored city cop decides to hassle me ?

Holy crap, brakeless riding gets you a ticket in San Diego?

myketee 12-07-12 10:37 AM

There's one motorcycle cop that lives writing tickets for that . There's guys all over sdfixed that have dealt with him . I've lived here for a year and this was my first run in with him.

I can't help you. I recommend seeing a doctor.

That's pretty awesome. I obviously can't read that website but it's most likely custom.

Nagrom_ 12-07-12 11:02 AM

Pick up only it looks like.

Any 1 1/8" fork will work but you'll either need to keep swapping the crown race back and forth (which I don't reccomend) or buy an extra one.

Yeah, I can't make heads or tails of that moonspeak either, but I thought maybe you'd seen something along those lines from one of your sw8 fixie distributors.

Them's a little pricy- the one that ships is $60 if google's exchange rates are current.

himespau 12-07-12 11:27 AM

$60 might be worth it if it means you don't need to buy a new fork and crown race to ride in San Diego.

I bet you could make one with an old stem and a piece of angle iron for a truly ghetto solution. Could actually be a cool thing for taking brakes off at the track, a hinged cross lever and one of those and you're GTG in like 2 minutes.

Scrodzilla 12-07-12 11:51 AM

A good friend of mine owns a machine shop. I'm going to see what we can make happen.

Nagrom_ 12-07-12 06:13 PM

Scrod, I have a conundrum. The headset is solid, just having some issues with both of my bearing dust caps. Stock, and an aftermarket low stack.

With the stock FSA cap, the dust cap makes contact with the headtube, so that isn't good. It's easily fixable with microspacers though.

The other issue is a little meh-er.
I'd prefer to use the aftermarket one... well, cause I paid for it.

The issue with the "Slam That Stem" dust cap is that there's a 2-3mm gap between the headtube and the dust cap. There are some pics later. It's functional like that, it just looks like ****.

The compression ring that came with the headset has a solid, like 2mm lip above the angular part(pics will show it better). I think a different compression ring, one with the same angle as the stock ring, would fix the gap. A more standard ring, with less of a lip.

I'm thinking of trying a compression with less of a lip, like this:

Gap:

Compression ring:

Installed w/o dust cap:

Think that'll work? Thoughts?

Scrodzilla 12-07-12 06:20 PM

Put the cap on and take another pic.

Nagrom_ 12-07-12 06:21 PM

Which cap?

stock or STS?

Scrodzilla 12-07-12 06:29 PM

The one you'd like it to work out with.
