Are you sure that top bearing is in all the way?
It will close very slightly when you snug it all down but that's still too much of a gap. Can you just use the stock compression ring with a thin spacer? Did the headset come with internal spacers? |

Yes, I derped and thought the top pic was with the FSA dust cap. I'm still thinking that top bearing isn't seated all the way in the head tube. Does the bottom one stick out that much?

Think I need the race reamed? |
No, I think you may just need to push the top bearing in a little more. It should be sitting pretty flush with the top of the head tube.
If it won't go in any more, what does the stock setup look like? |

If it won't go in any more, what does the stock setup look like? The bearing won't go in anymore. The stock dustcap actually makes contact with the headtube, and would need a spacer. Here's the stock cap: http://i.imgur.com/QTwPC.jpg Here's the bottom race. My feeler gauge puts the gap at 9/10's of a mm. http://i.imgur.com/qdsf2.jpg |
Us a small spacer and the stock cap. What if you're not even comfortable with your stem slammed like that?
|
Yeah, figured. Was hoping something might work.
Thanks! |
Scrod what is the the best 130 bcd cranks in your opinion. Also do you have any idea whether or not these would be an improvement over stock wheels http://www.universalcycles.com/shopp...&category=3879 . Thanks.

I have no idea what your stock wheels are. Those Zerolite wheels probably aren't much better, if at all. If you want reasons why, the hubs suck and they weigh a ton. |

Hey Scrod,
I'm looking for a little more cushion on my new kilo tt. On a smooth surface it rides like a dream, but commuting on some of the these third-worldish streets is vibrating me and the bike apart. Tried inflating the stock Kenda 23c tires to 60psi and got a pinch flat in one day; now riding at 90psi. I took some measurements and and it looks like 28c tires could fit... LBS recommended Schwalbe Marathons. Worth a try, or do I need to look at a different kind of frame? Rattled Pirate |
60psi? It's no wonder you got a flat. All Kilos seem to be different in terms of tire clearance so without actually seeing the bike, I have no idea what will fit.
Schwalbe Marathnos are very durable tires but they're also heavy and a little sluggish (like Randos). If you can fit it, I'm going to suggest stuffing a 28c in the rear () and putting something like a 25c Durano Plus up front. |
Scrod, did Bare Knuckles ever have bottle mounts?
|
I know the first gen BKs had cable stops but I don't think they ever had bottle mounts.

Thanks! Can you explain the reasoning here (I know almost nothing about tires)? btw I have a minimum of 8mm clearance all around, so should be no problem.

The reasoning behind why you were getting flats or why I suggested those tires?

Hey Scrod, that eye patch you sent in my package; is it meant to fit kids or do I just have a big head? It snapped when I tried it on :(

Yo dog, got that dust cap to work.
I went ahead and order one of each 1-1/8" compression ring that FSA offers, hoping one would work. I was originally just gonna get one, but they wanted like $11 shipping, and they rings were $3.25 each so I said **** it, and bought em all. well anyways, one worked(actually two can, but one is plastic). It had a slightly lower stack height so no more gap. fieeexed. |

Dude, you should have asked me! I can get those FSA compression rings for close to no money.
It was only like 20 bucks, but still. damn it, lol. Decided I'd go BB30 too, so now that adapter is on CL. Looked it up, and the bearings are dumb ass cheap, and easy enough to install and remove once they start creaking. |
