The Dolan and Leader are probably equal in overall quality but have very different geometry. I can't tell you which one you will like better.

Scrod, can I take a set of multi-gear Campy Chorus hubs, remove the cassette and use them for a single speed wheel build?

I don't see why not. Use this.

You'll run into some trouble if you plan on using the wheel on a track frame spaced at 120mm though.

Drats. They're 130mm? Hm, maybe I'll still get them for a future possible build instead.

Dear Most Merciful Scrod, conqueror of "America's Finest City", Creator of awesome bikes, The one true King of SSFG,

A buddy of mine just got a brand new set of Mavic Ellipse and it appears that his don't have any "grip nuts" on the inner part of the axles (front and rear). When he tightens the nuts, the axles spin.

Did Mavic forget his grip nuts or is this normal?

Surprisingly, that's normal (and another reason I hate Ellipses).

Notice that the axles have hex recesses on the ends of them. You can use these to insert a hex (allen) wrench in them to keep the axle from spinning while the axle nut is being turned.

doesnt matter if the axle turns. If you are holding the nut on the other side, it will tighten as the axle turns. once it is tight enough the nut you are turning will begin to tighten. voila!

It's still an unnecessary slight pain in the ass and a design flaw as far as I'm concerned.

So is needing to use two tools to do something you only need one for when using just about any other wheel.

Sure, but I was just pointing out that there is a simple workaround for this problem.

The most effective workaround is not buying stupid Ellipses.
