If the thread's getting to dilute for your taste you could always lock the thread, put a (PM your questions) on the end of the title, then when a good question comes in , unlock thread, Copy/Paste folks' questions and your responses, relock thread.

Not a bad idea, although I think this kind of ruins the idea of the thread. My idea would be to *kindly* ask individuals to not answer for Scrod and if they do we can deal with it from there... but it seems like that's not working.

Scrodzilla 11-20-11 03:46 PM

The number of PMs I already get are sometimes too much to keep track of. What you're proposing sounds far too difficult and time consuming.

Okie Doke. Unsubbed. That should put a dent in peanut gallery responses ;)

Kilo TT headset... is this bad? I put on a new stem and removed a spacer... maybe I didn't push it all the way down.

On a side note, what headset would be a reasonably-priced improvement from stock? (does r-g have a decent option in black? ;))

Scrodzilla 11-21-11 12:38 AM

That's pretty bad. In my experience, the Kilo's stock headset is crap. I recommend the FSA Orbit X.

jimmytango 11-21-11 02:22 AM

Scrod, looking at getting a reasonably priced crankset in the near future. I need a 68mm English thread. No I don't need one, per se, but I want one. Any recommendations? Preferably something sold by RG.

Also, why does this thread get jacked so often by peanut galleries (including myself), but Carleton's never does that I've seen?

hairnet 11-21-11 02:47 AM

Cuz Scrod is just more fun to hang around, like, duh.

We love you too, Carleton.

jimmytango 11-21-11 04:04 AM

Is your name Scrod? Haha..jk. I kind of assume that's why, actually.

Bad like, make sure no dust gets in there bad, or bad like, don't ride the bike around your headset is about to crap out bad?

I greatly appreciate the help!

Scrodzilla 11-21-11 07:18 AM

You're going to have a real hard time keeping gunk from getting in there. There are good caged-bearing headsets but that's not one of them. If you keep it clean it won't necessarily "crap out" right away but it may not be worth keeping around too long.

Reasonably priced? Sram S-300.

It figures hairnet was the first to respond. I think if I deleted all his "answers", this thread would lose at least 15 pages.

Hey Scrod,

I'm wondering when, over the next few months, the best time would be to buy a frame. I'm thinking aluminum and I'd like to buy from retrogression. We're heading in to 2012 and I see Leader's recently put up a 2012 catalog on their website so I don't want buy something too quick and miss out on a) a nice discount on a 2011 frame or b) an awesome 2012 frame or c) something new that's coming to retrogression that I don't yet know about.

So I'm not looking for any insider info or asking for a discount, just looking for your opinion (and also an attempt to get this thread back on topic).

Thanks!

I've had the same thing happen to me, FWIW. Can't get that cheap plastic part to sit still no matter what. It's still fine but I would recommend you switch out all the ball bearing components and swap to sealed cartridge components..

RG has 3 excellent choices for upgrades that aren't expensive: http://www.retro-gression.com/catego...ottom-brackets

dear scrod,

Is there a reason why this bikes chain ring bolts are back wards? the slot is on the outside of the ring

Scrodzilla 11-21-11 12:25 PM

I can't see any real reason for doing that.

What would you think a reasonable price is for an older hed disc tubular

And what finish would you prefer on an alpina fo4 carbon fork, matte or gloss?

Clif 11-21-11 11:32 PM

When you make your straps do you use an extra beefy sew machine or is the run of the mill sewing machine? I ask because my restrogession straps are currently hanging by a thread and wanna see if i can fix em with my mom's sewing machine.

Agreed. We should head to Blind Robin sometime. They have a Dr. Who pinball machine.

hairnet 11-22-11 01:38 AM

Dearest Scrod,

Have you noticed the increased use of the word "jawn" around here?

They're made on a couple of Singer industrial machines from the 1930s. It really depends on what you need to sew. You could end up damaging your mom's machine.
