Sure do. Is it your fingers or your wrists?

Fingers.

Is it really so difficult to fathom how one's fingers would be sore after building seven wheels over the past few days?

You should record a video of yourself building some wheels. Now THAT would rule.

What's the likelihood of being able to use a 15mm box wrench for a pedal swap?

Scrodzilla 11-18-11 04:44 PM

I've done it. It depends on the pedal and how much room there is between it and the crank arm.

jimmytango 11-18-11 04:49 PM

I'll give it a shot. Pics if successful.

Perhaps for those without the experience of wheel building it is.

When I was in my early 20s I got my first job in a bike shop. As the low guy on the totem pole, I got the layoff in the winter. I then got a piecework job building wheels for a regional distributor of bike components (this was before the days of the cheap wheel building robot). Every week I'd come into the office with the wheels I'd built and pick up a new supply of hubs, spokes, and rims. I don't know how many hundreds or thousands of wheels I built that winter but my callouses were so thick I could take pizzas out of the oven with my bare hands.

I do it all the time. On a couple of pedals I've got the wrench stuck in there upon tightening the new pedals, however. Then had to undo it and go dig up my pedal wrench.

Scrodzilla 11-18-11 07:49 PM

You have perceptive powers that dwarf mine. I guess he meant open end wrench. And for the record, I've used an open end wrench for pedals...http://image.made-in-china.com/2f1j0...End-Wrench.jpg

Am I correct in assuming that if I got this frame: http://www.somafab.com/archives/product/rush I could migrate everything over from my kilo except the seat tube? Fork/headset/etc all seem compatible. Although I'd want to replace the fork quickly.

jimmytango 11-19-11 06:34 AM

Yeah, open end, and it was successful.

You'd be all set but get a new headset. The stock Kilo headset is crap.

markaitch 11-19-11 07:47 AM

is that green soma rush frame from cycleclubsports the new nashbar ftp?

Scrodzilla 11-19-11 07:52 AM

No. It's much better looking and makes a lot more sense.

Scrod,

I think I read on parktools to never use anything but a pedal wrench to install or remove pedals. Is this one of those bike rules that you're supposed to follow, but most people don't really do it and it doesn't matter?

seau grateau 11-19-11 12:01 PM

Also you should never use anything but a Park 5mm hex key to tighten your stem.

jimmytango 11-19-11 12:26 PM

You're also supposed to use a special track nut wrench, but a $5 15mm box wrench works just fine.

That's one of the dumbest thing I've read in a while.
