Dustcaps

I came back to my locked bike and noticed somebody standing a few feet away from me looking suspicious. Upon arriving home I noticed my right clips was kinda loose and the right dustcap of my MKS pedals is missing...

Who on earth steals 1 dustcap?

Hot glue a ball bearing to your dustcap.

Isn't it bad for the pedal spindle especially in the rain?

easily defeated with a bic lighter. epoxy your dustcaps to your pedals after securing your bike to a mechanical clown with fifty feet of steel chain.

Someone who doesn't want to cough up $4 for the one that fell off their pedal.

I agree, although I usually station a pair of armed guards next to my bike.

Dustcaps fall off all of the time. He probably was looking suspicious because some dude was staring at him. Either that, or he didn't have time to get the other one.,,,,BD

Sorry dude. Had some pedal strike on my old bike and lost my dust cap. I was thinking about whether or not I should actually take it, but you stared at me and I got all choked up.

Doesn't surprise me;
I had some idiot steal the cheap black plastic Cinelli bar plugs from my bike while I was in a convenience store using the restroom.

I had wipe out that made me lose my dust cap.
On the way to the local co-op I saw so many bikes with good dust caps.

Co-op from my house: 30 minute ride.
Stealing a dust cap: 30 seconds.

I was tempted. And $3 for a pair of dust caps seem out raaageous.

They're a LOT cheaper than pedals, therefore the $3 a pair sounds logical to me.,,,,BD

i love how everyone's response in here is "maybe his dust cap fell off and he was too lazy/cheap to get another one so he was stealing yours" instead of "maybe your dust cap fell off."

just because he "looked suspicious" to you doesn't mean he has anything to do with your dustcap coming off.

Yep, and 99.98% percent of humanity doesn't even know or care what a pedal dustcap is, or does. 75-90% that do would take several months to realize theirs is missing. Your dust cap fell off, probably from vibration. Try putting a little grease or something on the threads next time, and snug it up good. I have 30+ year old campy pedals with the dustcaps still on them, so it is possible to keep them.,,,,BD

Anyone else thinkin he needs to "bust-a-cap" in the dust-cap thief?
