I think it's got plenty of soul. I think it's full CrMo so a decent frame. That thing is beautiful.
Especially when compared to this:
I'm not exactly dead set against it. I just wouldn't do it unless the rear derailer or rear wheel got damaged, something like that to encourage SS as an easy fix to keep her on the road.

And yes, it has a bit of a Harlequin look, what with the different colored wheels and bar tape. I would love to have a Brooks saddle with leather/cork bar tape and gumwalls. Tell y'all what, if the guy right before me in line for the Box of Crap want's to throw all of that in the box, consider it done!

Thats exactly what I've been thinking about doing to my bars, making a set of bullhorns but leaving mine OG and just stashing them, incase I want to go back to drops.

I'm sorry, but the bike isn't special, it has no inherent worth. It can be special to the rider for sure, but that shouldn't stop them from changing the equipment if they want. Take pride in your bike, find joy in it, but it is still a bit of lifeless steel, something that was produced by the thousand is a factory somewhere.

Plenty of people like Japanese lugged steel cuz it's good.
I dunno what kind of bikes you ride exactly but even though bikes that were made in garages by old Italian guys are nice, not everyone can have one.

In that condition you could probably fetch 350 for it if you wanted to sell it quickly here...especially with it in SS/FG mode... probably a lot more with some patience.

Yeah, I guess I sold a similar quality Nishiki Frame/Fork for $100 within hours, a complete Fuji Royale at $200 would go as quickly. I think fuzz2050 fought in WWII Pacific Theater, still hates the Japanese

Yes. They offer a blackwall version, but I don't see the point...
Bike looks great to me as-is, but if the conversion were done in a 100% reversible way, it wouldn't cause me any heartburn.

Leave it as is. Your better off buying an already built, decent priced track bike. It'll cost the same amount of $ as a conversion but the track bike frame will be better. I've built 2 conversions. The 1st one was an 84? Schwinn world sport. Converted it because the deralluer jumped gears into the wheel. I put about... $500 into that bike. Road It into a car great frame. 2nd one was a peice of crap sears beater. Gave that one up. Don't chop up the fuji tho.
