Fixed gearded mountain biking?
#28
I had my SS mountain bike "fixed" just to try it out for awhile - using a fixed cog and red Loc-Tite.
It was a lot of fun, but I'd hold the experience to being more like hiking with wheels, rather than really riding a bike. The bike had a lot of "feel" while slowly rolling up/down small hills and picking a line around obsticles. Mild downhills were especially fun, using backpedaling and skids to control speed.
Anything fast sucked, however. I ruined a set of pedals by stricking rocks, and jumping was out of the question.
I switched my "good" mountain bike back to a freewheel, but I'd still like to get a beater mountain bike and permanately convert it to fixed.
