Schwinn BB

I'm getting a 3-piece crank to replace the heavy original 1-piece crank. So far, I found a Truvativ American to Euro BB adapter, Vuelta Pista Track 46T 165mm crank, and a Truvativ BB 68x108mm square taper. These should all add up to$98. So the question is: Would the 108mm spindle and the Vuelta crankset fit on the Schwinn and have a good chainline with the Alexrims X404, fixed gear wheel? I will TRY to post some pictures if you'd like. Please answer!

New Components (hopefully getting)

It looks to me like you should have a good 42mm chainline.

Yeah, you'll be good. Putting all that stuff into a Varsity (or similar) frame may not be worth it though.

While it may not be worth it to other people, I say go for it, you'll have a ball with the bike, especially since its your creation.

Yup. Better than having a bike shop doing it and wasting money.

I did something similar with my first fixie bulid. I used a schwinn continental. Had a nice straight chainline. I quickly dropped the frame though. I wanted something lighter.
What Schwinn are you doing this to? the bikes above the continental would make quite nice fixies.

I sure had a blast with my Schwinn conversion. I kept the cup and cone BB though - it worked great even after 20+ years. I'm also curious what year and model you're converting. Unless it's something like a paramount it will still be pretty hefty.

There are two threads over in C&V about doing this on Schwinn Continentals. You might want to follow those threads also.

Bikes: everywhere

I'd just roll the original Ashtabula BB/cranks. Get some good 1/2" BMX platforms with footstraps in there and tear it up!

Crank swap on a Varsinental just doesn't seem worth the dough to me.

Yup. That's my set-up right now but I don't like the huge chainring of my modded FF system.

Well. Not really. I had to remove the original seatpost, saddle, handlebars, brakes, deraileurs, and rear rim. As I said, I have pictures (that will be uploaded soon).

What? You've got Front Freewheel, too?

Nice!
I stayed with the stock BB, got mine down to about 30lbs:

Tons of fun to be had!!

Let us know how that goes, I was tossing around the idea but went with the gaudy wheels instead.

Yeah. What my uncle did was remove the FF (front freewheel) crank. On the crank he found a small hole which he could screw a bolt through a nut- which was welded on the chainring and connected to the crank.
