It took me awhile to decide that I wanted to do it, but having LASIK surgery done on my eyes has been the best thing I've ever done for them. It's so awesome to not have your eyes itch from old contacts every night. It's also really nice to open your eyes in the morning and be able to see.

Plus the place did 18 months same as cash, so it helped with the bill.

I have a friend that has halos at night around lights...but he also had his done 10 years ago when they were still cutting. Mine was all done with lasers and only took a few seconds. So far, no issues at night. Well, no more than normal. I have light blue eyes and they've always been sensitive to bright lights at night.

It is possible for your eyes to degrade again over time, I've had mine for a little over a year now and so far so good. The thing I'm most worried about is that I might still need readers as I get older. My eyes were on the same Rx for over 5 years, so I figured it was a good time to have them done, they weren't getting any worse at the moment, anyway. We'll see how it pans out.

It was a big step for me - it was kind of scary to think lasers are shooting into your eyeballs and what would happen if something went wrong. "Look at the green dot and hold" - while these thoughts roll through my brain...am I looking at the right green dot, am I zoning out and moving my eye accidentally, everything just got fuzzy - am I screwed. Luckily all was good.

My business partner (co-founder of our club) thought so to. She had the same idea going the other way, if ya catch my drift ;) She's a sweetheart, quick as a whip, and helps plan club affairs. Insane runner, too. A 15mi run at a pace of ~7mi/mi is just another morning for her.

I've contemplated Lysik but, to be honest, I like my glasses. When I picture myself in my head, I'm wearing glasses. I'll put up with the inconvenience. :p

seau grateau 07-29-13 11:17 PM

**** that I am not letting anyone shoot lasers into my eyes.

Nagrom_ 07-29-13 11:19 PM

I've been considering it. My vision is too bad to get any kind of sport sunglasses, and gas permeable contacts sound terrible while riding.

approx 40 people PHX group ride last night.

What ride is that? I wish I lived closer to downtown.

I think I'm going to run the underground crit tonight. We just moved into our new office which is right next to it. Thought I'd check it out.

This was PHX LOOPS.

Every Monday 8PM Civic Space Park. Route is usually about 20 miles long. PHX Bikes & State Bicycle post info on their facebook pages the day of ride. They do one in Tempe on Wednesdays too. Usually a smaller crowd.

The downtown ride has been growing.. There was 50+ last week and 40 last night so I can only image what it will be like in a few more weeks.

Nice! I've heard of LOOPS, just never got around to going to one. Hopefully, I'll get a chance at some point.

You should. Such a fun ride. Group usually will split into 2 or 3 depending on pace you want to ride at. 30 mph guys at the front... 20 mph guys in the middle and some of the slower people behind them.. but they always stop after a few miles and let everyone catch back up.

Thanks! These are in the Marin/MT. Tamalpias area, but down South has similar roads in the Palo Alto hills. Highway 9/Alpine/La Honda/etc are all beautiful.

Damn, I assuming this is gonna be happening for a while? I'm heading out to PHX for a wedding in October and have been unsure if I'm gonna bring my bike or not, but that might be worth it.

SpeshulEd 08-01-13 12:05 AM

As far as I know, LOOPS happens every week.

LOOPS PHX is every Monday 8PM at Civic Space Park
444 N Central Ave Phoenix, AZ 85004

LOOPS AZ (Tempe) is every Wednesday 8PM at Tempe Beach Park
2 S Mill Ave, Tempe, AZ 85281

Routes depend on the day, always changing and range from 10 to 20 miles.. speeds depend on what group... 18-20mph +/- on the top end for A group.. 12-15mph +/- on the top and bottom end for B group.. sometimes B will split to C for slower paced people but we always have 3 - 4 regroup spots to let everyone catch up and grab a drink of water and a little rest.

Last nights ride was a shorter route and pretty fast, I was mid A group and ran an 18.8MPH average for 12 miles. We had around 20 people on the ride last night (it was only 106º degrees though) and it was a good pace and some fun sprints.
