false. they are actually quite heavy as compared with monocoque designs.
as for the overall project, 3lb (~1400g!) is a lot to lose by changing only small/cheap parts. in fact, if your frame/fork/wheels are not to change, i think it's a pipe dream.
on the other hand, if you really think a seatpost change dropped a pound, maybe you know a thing or two about the pipe?

Even the carbon steerer version has an internal aluminum sheathing. That's right, I have a star nut, not a compression plug in mine.

I have actually located a 1" threaded carbon fiber fork, so I have a decision to make, threaded or threadless. This route would allow for a lighter front wheel, yet keep the color matching the rear.

It opens the budget to allow for a front wheel. Probably will still do threadless, I'm going to expand the budget a bit. Ritchey still makes a 1" threadless carbon fork.
