as for the overall project, 3lb (~1400g!) is a lot to lose by changing only small/cheap parts. in fact, if your frame/fork/wheels are not to change, i think it's a pipe dream.

on the other hand, if you really think a seatpost change dropped a pound, maybe you know a thing or two about the pipe?

I agree. My bike is similar to yours and I can't imagine dropping that much weight without a new wheel set.

Very few people here have bikes under 15 lbs, and if they do it isn't a steel conversion.

True but I was mentioning it in more of a general sense... but when you factor in bombproof durability it's a trade off well worth it; I thought a person like dan would be interested.

Even the carbon steerer version has an internal aluminum sheathing. That's right, I have a star nut, not a compression plug in mine.

I have actually located a 1" threaded carbon fiber fork, so I have a decision to make, threaded or threadless. This route would allow for a lighter front wheel, yet keep the color matching the rear.

Threadless. It is lighter and it will be worth the weight/wait. (haha)

I'm confused about the second part of your statement though. Why would threaded vs threadless affect your front wheel?

It opens the budget to allow for a front wheel. Probably will still do threadless, I'm going to expand the budget a bit. Ritchey still makes a 1" threadless carbon fork.

ive got a full carbon 1in easton EC90 sl that i would consider trading for a heavier threadless fork that fits the appearance of my steel frame better.
