My ~15 pound thread....

I decided that I want to challenge myself and get my 930 down to 15 pounds. I'm going to try to pull this off without getting new wheels. Needed a new seatpost anyways, so that's a good place to start and got a carbon fiber wrapped seatpost.

Before today was 18 pounds.
Now it's 17 pounds....(Sugino seatposts are anchors)

Next step will likely be stem/headset/fork...

A full carbon seatpost would be lighter than the carbon wrapped seatpost. I have Deda Zero100 bars and they are super light. I can imagine the stem and seatpost

Edit: Did some research not as light as I thought but they are still light

I wouldn't want a full carbon seatpost, because I still want it to be durable.

Did you take the pedals off?

You can also use the "Rivendell Method" and weigh it without pedals or a saddle.

Doing this the proper way and not the half assed Rivendell way.

What bars and brakes are you planning on using?

Ultegra brake which is what I'm running right now anyways, the bars most likely what I have on it now unless I do go 31.8.

Do titanium, seatpost and quill stem, a carbon threaded fork. or alum.. My Litespeed is a full roadie and is close to 15 lbs with the anchor shamal wheels I have. The carbon wrap parts not worth it for losing any kinda real weight.

Your wheels are gona hurt your weight the most though.

A real challenge indeed!

Gee I heard wound up forks are both light and go hand in hand with steel/ bikes with smaller gauged tube sets.

The rotating weight would make a much bigger difference, just saying...

I was making a excel workbook for an attainable dream fixed bike for the road, you can use some of the componentes in there...weight so far is 14.55

https://goo.gl/ZcVsr

some of the components are not the lightest but it's a good balance of cost Vs. benefit

The wheels I am actually happy with, it took me awhile to get a match there and having rough roads around here, light weight wheels are not an option.

It's not going to be hard, the frame isn't that heavy, tubeset is columbus sl, and honestly would be perfectly happy with just 16 pounds.

BTW, this is going to be a thread I will keep updated.

Keeping budget to ~$300.

$50 down, $250 to go.

Thomson Masterpiece seatpost: $150. Not going to get a carbon fork for $150, will also need headset, stem.

Bikes: tirove

Deda Elementi Zero1 Stem : 55 dollars and 135 grams
you'll need a shim though
headsets, i don't think it gets any lighter with higher quality it's just that it gets more... umm... quality.

the big difficulty here is a fork. a fork that's light and fits.

Random wieght in things like a seatpost and a stem does not do a whole lot, unless you are climbing up mountains. Rotational weight in your wheels effects a whole lot, no matter what you are riding. And lightweight does not equal weak. If you want to show off that your bike only weighs 15lbs. go for it, but function dictates that take all the money you are putting in a new fork, bars, stem, seatpost, ect. and invest in a wheelset.

Rotational weight is good where I have it, I just want to see if I can do it.

i have found that the super light forte tubes save about 50gm each, and are a cheap way to lose about 1/4 lb. and they will force you to improve your tire changing skills at the same time, inasmuch as they will NOT tolerate any kind of abuse.
