Economy Intro Wheelset

Hi guys, I'm building a fixie and am looking for a good wheelset that won't cost me a ton. I had my eye on a Origin-8 set because it comes with the flip flop hub, but I can't seem to find the ones I like machined and I want to ride with brakes. I don't know much about wheel brands and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions. Thanks!

Agree with the velomine tip. Bought a pair of wheels from them. Good price and quality build.

(sorry for the slight derail) Did you get dinged at all (taxes, etc) when your wheels crossed the border?

if you know nothing about bikes/wheels go to your lbs.

then when they break or become untrue you'll have someone to help you fix them.

Apart from Velomine, Eighthinch is also good. The Amelia wheelset is available for $110 with cog/lockring/tubes/tires.

The Amelia's sound like an amazing deal! But, based on the reviews I'm starting to think otherwise. Not sure if everyone nowadays want loose bearing hubs. Supposedly the crapshoot cog and lockring that comes with it strips your hubs, but I think the reviewers did not properly install their equipment. The tires are said to be extremely cheap and pop off the rim when recommended psi is reached. Also, 3060 grams for the set, but I don't think anyone cares at that price.

These seem like a good budget wheelset - from Velomine:

For a bit more they have the Open Pro version. And, for lightness, the Wabi wheelset is liked.

^ I second this recommendation, I purchased Mavic cxp22's about 5 months ago and have been extremely impressed with them. Also you can't argue with the $120 price either.

Thank you guys so much! I went with the Alex wheelset because they're on sale and my Specialized Langster has an Alex set on it and I've been happy with them. https://www.velomine.com/index.php?ma...p8nu93gkpbdt82

Also, I called to get some specs and some advice and although he seemed busy, he definitely answered all my questions. I'll be doing business with them again!
