SE Premium Brew Build

Check it >> https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/se/premium_brew.htm

Don't worry, first thing is a paint job. After that a nice saddle, gator skins, and maybe some different handlebars (stock looks uncomfortable for a commuter). Also don't worry about it not being in stock on Bikesdirect.com, I got that covered.

A couple Q's...

I'm 6' 4" 35.5" inseam... This will be a commuter, so I think if I'm right between sizes I'd go for the smaller one because of the aggressive frame style. What size? 61cm or 58cm?

As far as components go, what should I swap out right off the bat? I'm having a hard time finding a decent review on this bike, and I'd like to save some shipping money and grab everything online when I buy the bike. Brakes and brake levers? Rims? Pedals?

Any help much appreciated. I'll be ordering the bike today.

Thanks

Just to be clear, are you buying a frameset and building it up (a build) or are you buying the complete bike and swapping parts (not a build, at least not colloquially)?

Because if you are planning on swapping a lot of parts, you might as well start with the frameset and not pay extra for parts you will be switching out immediately.

Buying the whole bike, swapping out saddle, handlebars, tires, and anything else that is sub-par.

...and yes, a fitment question.

No, I am not a bike fanatic. Sorry

It should stay singular.

What is this, the Scholastic Aptitude Tests? X

Now, let us look at it again, this time with the proper singular form.

THANK YOU! When I was studying for/taking the LSAT, one of my biggest pet peeves was people saying "LSATs"

Why the **** did I even start this thread lol...

58 or 61cm? Bfloyd, was that a 61cm hint?

I doubt anyone with some SE Premium Brew experience will help with the swapping out of parts..

Not a hint, but as you can now see JesusBananas stepped up for our Fitment Question guru, Jaytron He usually takes care of posting his fitment link to all questions regarding to frame size questions. Use the link provided as it gets you right close to what bike size you will need. Being 6'4", I would think the 61cm may be best but use the calculator to know for sure. It get's closer to fine tuned measurements - top tube length for one which really is the most important fit, IMO.

The SEPB looks like a fine bike, it's just that the color scheme is not much liked around here. Personally, I don't mind it. I would just opt for a different saddle. I'm sure other PB owners will step up soon....

I looked on the BD site and didn't see the 61cm available. I remembered that Nashbar also had these, but they don't show a 61cm either. Bike Island has the framsets available though:

If you are planning to changing out a few of the comps anyways, you may want to consider a build.

Thanks for that calculator- 61 it is

On that note, I learned that the track but is not very good and should be replaced, along with the saddle handlebars and paint job I'm coming in at around $150 plus the $400 for the bike.

Anyone know of a better single speed I can buy online for $550?

why buy a whole bike if youre gonna end up swapping everything out when you first get it? yet worse, repaint the frame.

youre gonna be spending a whole lot more cash on that crap bike than you would getting a quality frame and building it up.
