Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

New to Forum looking for fixie!

Repost from intro, sorry just thought it would get more positive response here:

Hey guys Ive been lurking for a few weeks on here and after doing some research I decided that I would like to try my hand at a fixed gear/ single speed. I'm not new to biking, I have built several custom BMX bikes and have ridden BMX for about 15years. After researching and finding out how bad bigshotbikes are, as well as other mass marketed fixed gears, I have decided I want a matte black kilo tt stripper off bikes direct size 60cm ( im 6foot3 190lbs) My problem is when I went to finally order last night the 60cm which said LOW STOCK next to it was really OUT OF STOCK! When I went to check out it wouldn't allow me to complete the order because it said the bike was not available.

So my question is, to the people that have been around a while, how often does bikes direct restock? am I screwed and need to find something else or can I wait it out a few weeks and get the TT like I really wanted?

Thanks for the Help I hope I can be a useful contributor to these forums! I just want to ride!

Vhee

They usually restock every couple of months. October is a month I remember hearing, although I might have made that up.

Bikes: BMX, fixed gear

Why not just buy the right size in one of the other colors? It would get you out riding, and its just some paint. The raw looks really cool, and I can dig that green too.

I vaguely remember hearing Oct as well. I wanted a Kilo TT Pro but they had no 60's in stock so I got a Windsor The Hour, I'll end up unloading it when they restock the Pro's.

Street rider: I'm actually not set on the matte black that was just my first choice I'm open to different colors. However if you look at bikes direct they are currently out of every kilo Tt model/color in the 60 cm size which is my issue. Now that I made the decision to pull the trigger, not being able to is driving me nuts! Arrrrgg!!(pirate sounds)

I do agree tho the raw is awesome. However my current BMX build is a raw'd frame so was looking for something different. But trust me if it was available right now it would be in my shopping cart.

I haven't tried putting any in a cart, but they are showing a couple colors in the Kilo TT Chrome and Paint in 60cm:

Have you tried those yet?

Yeah, I emailed them asking about the kilo's seat clamp size and they responded with this:

"We do not expect any Mercier Kilo TT/Stripper/Pro models until some time in the fall of 2012."

so... yeah... doesn't answer my question, but it answers yours.

One fine single speed on the market today, has been on the market for quite some time now, but remains a sleeper...

It's the Giant Via 3!

The Giant Via 3 ~ $410

Just remove the fenders to increase your cool status by a factor of ten!

Thanks. I decided to just build up a Leader 722ts (the price for the frame & fork seemed really good *from citygrounds*). I like the Kilo Pro, but I dont like waiting unfortunately.

Yeah for the last week a lot of 60cm said "low stock" so I figured I was good, however after you add it to cart and go to checkout it then tells you its not available.

BUT! it seem that they have updated today because now the ones I could not buy yesterday say sold out next to them.

I was however lucky enough to be able to get my hands on a raw 60cm kilo tt stripper, "low stock" meant they actually still had one lol.
Just ordered a minute ago and could not be happier! will match my BMX perfectly haha. Cant wait to put some miles in.

Most people around here don't really like the term because its what 'every hip kid out on the street' calls them. Same thing sometimes with the term track bikes. Most of them aren't really built for the track, so why call it that? But really, fixed gear is sometimes too long and doesn't really flow within the sentence you are uttering.

There is no winning.
Also, congrats on getting an order placed!

Fixed gear bikes have been referred to as "fixies" since the turn of last century. It may be time to get over it.

Do you have a citation for that?
