I'm sure this was a general statement and in no way directed toward me.
I asked the crusty kids squatting downtown about Carhartts and they'd never heard of them either.

They're really comfy after the first couple of days wearing them. You don't want to wash them too much, that makes them really stiff. Probably another reason yuppies don't wear them...

pitboss 01-13-05 11:55 AM

throw 'em in the dryer on AIR with a pair of shoes to soften them up.

:D

i can't believe you actually ride this thing...

i have been meaning to send tony an email, to bust his ballz a bit about it....the only negative thing about my mark v was that it had one of these in the box along with it....i had already picked up a black brooks saddle and was going to just ask tony not to include a saddle but someone i talked to had received their mark v with a nice saddle, so i rolled the dice...

hey anyone want this saddle, brand new never sat on....

I've seen that done before. No big deal. But since i live way on over in VA, I bet there's someone on the left coast who could make good use of it.

kurremkarm 01-14-05 01:10 PM

Well i tried lots of saddles until i got my b-17 and now i know for sure what is going on all my bikes in the future. My bet is it was the pants, jeans are terrible to ride in because the crotch is too restrictive. A nice pair of cargo pants or something is a vast improvement.

Is this the Cloud9 Saddle?

I find this thread offensive ... I think the proper word would be Gonads :)

Had a similar (numbness, not pain) effect one time when I rode a century with a New, fool that I was) gel pad on my saddle. 1/2 way through the ride I tossed it into the SAG Wagon, haven't seen it again & good riddance. The numbness was gone by the end of the ride.

just fwiw - I went all ginger ale in the groin a few weeks back - was a combo of ill fitting bib shorts, too high seat, and front tire hitting a rock (knocked me around on the boys across the seat) while zooming down a hill. I think those bumps will hurt you in the nether regions....no probs for me before or since, thank god!

protaghiro 07-15-05 11:41 AM

see a doctor. dont want to lose those boys forever.

delay 07-15-05 11:49 AM

All these things are possible, but the boxer shorts might also be the problem. A nice athletic pair of underwear that tucks the bits and pieces out of harms way has helped me a lot.

That said, after a 60 mile ride last sunday in lycra I noticed my left nut to be a tad bit tender. It went away in a day.

I love Brooks, They are so neat.
They protect my nuts, they protect my meat.

I love the rivets, leather, tan.
The be-all-end-all of the messenger man.

The price is steep, but it's small to pay.
For my awesome a*s-comfort, day after day.

The supple leather, the weathered look.
It reminds me of an old favorite book.

So buy a Brooks, and don't look back.
Your body will thank you, especially your sack.

(Takes a small bow...)

Thank you, thank you.

Dude for all you who said that 'hartts don't wear out I'm amazed. I do some competitive lumberjacking in Maine during the school year. I've seen more pairs of carhartts with patched crotches than I care to think about. Maybe lumberjacks are just "differently abled" where it counts

Ohman. Lumber Sports are so ******** awesome in the same way that being the only vegan at a hot dog eating contest is awesome. Do you do that springboard thing?

ImOnCrank 07-15-05 01:58 PM

Yeah they are. Nah we can't do springboard for insurance reasons (I dunno what it is about the high possibility of falling 10 feet with a razor sharp axe that scares people but F them). I've seen some of the pro guys do it when they have pro-am meets. That ***** is sick. I do axe throw, chainsaw (disc stack/up-down), and v-chop

pgoat 07-15-05 02:16 PM

while we're at it......

I'm a 501 / 505 (zipper is better when you're drinking too much) guy too - havebeen for decades.

Is it me or do these jeans wear out a heck of a lot faster than they used to?

The denim feels like the same weight, but I used to get a coupla years out of one pair - now it's year, tops, before I blow the crotch out. Maybe I'm just riding more and don't realize it.....

anyone else notice this over the last 20 years or so with Levis?

eblaska 07-15-05 02:18 PM

you have gnohrehia... from that chick you were with last night

phidauex 07-15-05 02:38 PM

If you like carhartts, but want something a little different, try Ben Davis's. They make them in SF, and they are really nice. I wear them 90% of the time. Durable as hell, comfy, and they look good with anything.

peace,
sam

about 5 yrs ago i knew some one that worked at the levis store on michigan ave (chicago). I still dont know how this is possible, but supposedly all levis' are guaranteed for life (?) so she would have all these women come in to exchange thier jeans because they didnt fit anymore. This is after they had them for a reasonably long enough time that most normal people wouldn't think to return them.

it sounds like an urban myth, but she dealt with it first hand so.... and it was also a while ago so maybe its gone now.

also, for me carharts are not comfortable, waaaaaaay too tight or my ass is/was too big when i had a pair as a teenager. i think i only wore them twice maybe. The seem to be and have been for many years a staple for punk rockers here in chicago also. maybe they are wearing ben's

A good saddle of any kind will last you a long time. A Brooks saddle isn't necessarily the end all be all of cycling ass-support, whatever you tell yourself.

This true - I used to do it too at the levis outlets, but they have to look like they fell apart, methinks - if they are clearly worn out from wash or wear (thinning fabric, like mine) I doubt they'd replace 'em....I could be wrong.
