LOL, thanks. You should try one -- it becomes less of a "big deal" really fast, the risk of drawing blood isn't all that great since you already know how to avoid it with a safety, and you get more toys to play with... strop, brush, etc.

my favorite is the OG Selle Italia Flite Ti

I have shaved with a straight razor and its nice but my beard is rather confused so I prefer a Safety razor but nothing beats a brush and shaving soap

I have a nice badger brush that I hardly ever use anymore. I was wayyy into it when I first started wetshaving a few years ago. I would always soak the brush in a hot mug while I showered and work up a nice lather and the whole 9 yards...
But then I got over it and I just jump out of a hot shower and slap some nice Taylor or Truefitt cream on my face, work it into a lather and do the damn thang. I don't be havin' no time for no brushes these days. Time is money. But money is not time. You'd think it would work both ways- but it doesn't...

Maybe on the weekend once in awhile, or on my bday or something, I'll treat my face to the brush.
My favorite summer shave is the Truefitt West Indian Limes cream followed by some Bay Rum aftershave. It's like a caribbean vacation, booyah!

I'm using a regular B17 on my FG, but I'm considering lacing it to get the skirts out of the way.

I'm not all that suprised that they do. The explanation that they offered sounded a little weak in my opinion.

I tried finding the original article on Bicycle Times site, but it's a little like a needle in a haystack.

I've been running the stock saddle on my Fuji for a year now and I'm about ready to throw the thing into the lake. I hate it. Just ordered this today.

Alas it's not eligible for Prime so I have to wait forever to get it. Sigh.

In case of a water landing, your saddle may be used as a flotation device...

Hey I just thought of something... bike shops should repurpose some adjustable/hydraulic stools and put seatposts on them so shoppers could actually sit on a demo model. Do some shops do anything like this?

Short answer: roll the dice. Doesn't matter what others ride, you won't know until you ride it.

See below for my spiel (schpiel? shpiel? shpeel?):

No offense, but I think threads like this should be auto-locked, deleted and thrown into the depths of Hades. I wish the mods/admins would sticky something about it, and you can search the same topic to your heart's content because it has been asked and answered so many times.

Questions like this are useless unless "best" is somehow quantified, for example, what is the most durable, longest lasting, cheapest, most expensive, has the most color options, etc.

This question and others like it, for example, what's the best bike, what's the best handlebar, what's the best crankset, what are the best pedals, etc. always lead to the same result: people listing what they like, which tells you absolutely NOTHING about how you will like it.

The only productive result from threads like this, to me, is to somehow reach a consensus on what the masses like, and give yourself a narrowed list of choices based on that. Again, that doesn't guarantee that you will like any of those choices, it only tells you what is popular.

Because of the cookie cutter nature of these questions and responses, in the future I'm going to just paste this exact same response when I see a similar thread.

No offense but I'm not sure how much of the thread you've read.
You said my question is useless because I didn't quantify "best". You may not have noticed but I didn't title it "best", I said "favorite". And that is precisely why I chose the word favorite instead of the word best.

I guess you may have missed my 2nd post in this thread where I said "I guess saddles are very personal - so it may be difficult for me to gain any help with this. I guess no one is going to be able to tell me what will work best for my bone structure and bike, etc."

So you really didn't add anything helpful, all you did was complain about a thread you wished was dead or outlawed. Going forward you may want to ignore such threads rather than post in them since you haven't anything nice to add, and since it would help the thread die more quickly if you weren't fueling the fire.

I'm not going to humor your little rant anymore, but rest assured this thread has actually been helpful to me in several ways. Thanks for your time and have a swell day.

Learning what saddles other people like gives you a starting place as to what might work for you. There's nothing wrong with asking what people prefer just so you know where to start looking.

If you find that a bunch of people really like one saddle in particular, then it's probably safe to assume that it's a good saddle and might be something worth looking at.

Good for you, there was some useful info in this thread. And you're right, I didn't read all of the things that you mentioned. And I'm not going to. Calm down, my reply wasn't meant to be taken in a mean way, it's my type of humor.

And yes, I did add something helpful. You could have searched this without making a new post. You can't count the times a question like this has been asked and really experienced riders (not me) reply with something like "you just gotta try it out" because that's life. I'm more inclined to listen to that now then someone who gives me the most detailed explanation about why they like their saddle. This might not be directly relevant to your question, and for that I apologize. But that doesn't mean you couldn't have researched this without asking a question that has been beat to death.

I've never tried this before, and in my search for a better fit saddle this interests me. How does the actual measurement of the sit bones relate to the width of the saddle? I mean, I assume that the sit bone measurement is almost always wider than the actual saddle, no? Is the most outside fatty areas of the a$$ taken into account in the measurement? Do you just try to find as wide of a saddle as possible to get close to the sit bone measurement? Thanks.

Completely agree. But it's been asked, and answered, asked and answered, asked and answered. Geez I sound like a trial lawyer.

I think it's just a difference in attitude. I make new posts on BF as a last resort (not necessarily the smartest attitude), when I've googled and researched on BF and still can't find an answer. I'm about to make one because I can't find the torque specs for a stem I bought. I wouldn't do it for finding out what saddles people like (not saying this in a judgmental way), I already found out by searching: 1980 Turbo, Concor Supercorsa, Fizik Arione, Brooks B17, Specialized Romin, etc.

Sit bones are generally fairly narrow(and move closer together the more bent you are at the waist), so for example, I ride a 143mm saddle because my sit bones measured in at 128mm. I could have gotten my saddle in a 130mm, but that would leave my sit bones right at the outer edges of the saddle, which would not be comfortable. I find that although my saddle fits me great when I'm in a good leaned over position, it's very comfortable. When I sit up to ride no handed though, my sit bones are wider and it becomes significantly less comfortable.

Saddle should generally be 10mm+ wider than the width between your sitbones. But it depends on the saddle shape and the riding style of the rider. It also depends greatly on physiology as well, just use it as a guidepost, not a rule.

Here's a link to the Specialized patent for their sitbone measuring device.

Thing is that you've been around for a while. You see people posting with their bikes and kind of have a mental poll of what saddles are popular in the cycling community. This guy is new and hasn't seen all the saddle threads, all the pages of the "post your FG/SS pics", or all the newbie build threads where they ask for advice on random parts. The knowledge of what parts/brands are quality is something that just comes from being around and reading about it. It can't obtained just by running a couple searches.

Sorry dude, you're absolutely right. You know, come to think of it, why are we voting for presidents every four years still? I mean, we already settled that once, right? Why would we want to ask the same question again? Could it be that there are new "products" on the market? Could it be that not everyone knows about all of the "products" and what their strengths and weaknesses are?

I'm calm man. You're just a total downer. Busting in here telling everyone that this thread is a huge waste of your precious time (more or less). It bugs you that much, eh? This one little line of words on your computer screen... bugs you so much you had to click on it and write a rant to let us all know how you feel about these evil little threads which have the audacity to question others on their favorite gear. How dare I. Please accept my humble apology.

Good point. I need to relax sometimes.

But I disagree, I think it can be obtained by running a couple of searches. But it can also be obtained by starting a new post, which the OP did. I just need to calm down, I'm tired of seeing what's your favorite ________, where to me, it seems like most people just end up going in circles.

Hahahahahaha. You win. You know me better than I know myself, it seems.

Presidents and saddles. The similarities between them are far and few between. But, to run with that example, look at it this way. Half of the country likes one person, the other half likes the other person, and a few like the Green guy. But you won't really know which one is good until he or she is actually president.

I can agree that the revolving threads can be annoying, but he raises about point regarding new products. Perhaps a stickied "Saddle Review" thread would be helpful, maybe including a poll where people can post their thoughts/experiences with certain saddles and add new options. But I guess this could be applicable to any component, and that would be a stupid number of stickied threads.
