Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

42X16 There are a gazillion 42t chainrings out there from old road bikes, 16t cogs/freewheels are everywhere too and it gets you right about the magical 70GI.

I thought the title of this thread was "hello for my people please answer" and thought it was the funniest weird phrase/sentence fragment I had seen in a while. So I tweeted it. The end.

So, we doing A/S/L now with a bit of our bike information?

I run a FG/SS on 44/16. Mainly use my SS, getting a new SS FW in, so using the FG atm.

sure we could lol even though I didn't ask for that. I just ask if you're riding single speed or fixed gear bike and then give the gear ratio you are using.

24/m/sunset park, bklyn single speed FTW. I'm on 48/14 soon to be 50/14 once my legs gets stronger.

I run 46/16 and mostly SS. Too many hills to spin down fixed. Flip the wheel sometimes for grins, but... There's always another hill.

That depends on the rider but a higher ratio will eventually wreck your knees if you live in a hilly area.

the higher the gear ratio the less you have to pedal, harder uphill easier downhill, vice versa for lower

a lovely man named Sheldon Brown has covered just about everything bicycle related you could ever want to know

i ride with 71 gear inches - 46/17 on staten island, fixed

Bikes: yes

I was doing 44/17 fixed, but now I'm happy with 44/18 free.
50/14? Do you live close to (possibly inside) Kissena?

no. i live in brooklyn , sunset park section. there are lots of hills riding back, + the man bridge but riding to the city just the bridge is the only thing i will have to really push. right now it's still 48/14 that i'm riding.

I don't even run ratios like that on the track. LOL

You must have quads the size of my head.
