Mercier Kilo TT or Mercier Kilo WT or Vilano EDGE Chromoly

Hi everyone, Iam new here and currently looking into buying my first single speed/fixie bike. I was wondering which of the following bikes would be best for a newbie like me who lives in NYC. The Mercier Kilo TT, Mercier Kilo WT or Vilano EDGE Chromoly. Also weight matters too because i live on the top floor of a 6 floor walk up. Please advise. Thank you

P.S. My budget is $500. Feel free to voice your opinion if you think there are better bikes for someone like me other then the ones i've posted. Thank you

It's your problem

I would say to look at the reviews of those bikes on the net, the Mercier seems more common than Vilanobut but that dont mean it's better, that's just my reference of lurking at what people in the community have.

hope this helps.

The WT will have decent tires for NYC but it won't roll as fast when you're riding the bike paths. The TT has faster tires but a limited tire size, if you later want to make them bigger.

(As usual, being a satisfied and enthusiastic owner of one!) I recommend that you consider the Windsor TimeLine. I'm in NYC and the bike is really in its element here. Saying that (and I think it's true for all of the bikes mentioned above), the stock tires will need to be replaced sooner or later. You'll fly on them, but they're not too durable. After a couple of hundred miles, the sidewall deformed on my front tire. On the recommendation of my LBS owner, a Bontrager Race All Weather set replaced the stock tires. Expensive, but a big improvement in ride quality.

Otherwise - also true for the other bikes mentioned - just take care on the sizing.

The stock Timeline tires are about a pound a piece maybe a little more. The weight of the replaced tires just depends on which brand tires and size you plan in buying.

oh my bad. my 49 cm was 24 stock. After new tires, stem, handlebar and seat post it's 22 now but i have both breaks and a freewheel. The stock rims are heavy as hell too. Edit: I got these https://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...85_-1___202471 they dropped about a pound from 24 to 23

The effective tt length is a bit bigger because the slopping tt. I'm 5'8 and ride a 49 514 tt it measured at 530 ett length he'll be close. If he even did the fitment right.

Good call! I think you'll really enjoy the bike.

I've never weighed mine. I know The Hour is listed at 18 lbs. I'm guessing 22 lbs, but I'll have to weigh it.

EDIT: By the way, I'm in a fourth floor walk-up, and the weight of the bike presents no problem going up and down the stairs. Minus water bottle and u-lock, it's a feather.
