work: 4-5mi depending on whether i use the county route or the mixed surface (dirt path, gravel, grass, some road) route.

13-19min.

my city route for scheduled activities (board meetings, teaching historical fencing) is 5mi through regular street traffic. 18min, depending on how many lights i have to / choose to wait for.

It's all of 2.5 miles to work on flat roads. However it's so close I can still ride home for lunch. Maybe 10-15 mins each way, just depending on how hot it is outside. todays heat index 102.

My commute is 11 miles. 13 if I take lake shore trail which I rarely do.

Takes about 50 - 60 minutes. Done it in 45 before. But haven't been riding to work much this summer since has been so hot.

Have a smaller 7 mile morning commute that I tend to ride much more often since its much cooler then. Takes about 35 - 40 minutes, but have to ride right back.

For both situations train picks me up right in front of my apartment and drops me a block away. So hard to get motivated at times. But faster on bike than train for both commutes (not by much though).

Some days I do just lay the hammer down and try to beat Strava records haha. I tend to see a ton of roadies on my ride, (again, rich suburbs) and they love to sprint past me, so sometimes I get irritated with it and catch them.

Truth. Today I went 10 miles out of my way just because it was nice out.

5 miles here. 25 minutes there, 20 back. Way back is easier due to the higher number of right hand turns and not having to wait for lights.

8 miles each way. Dealing with traffic, lights, hills, and the ever present wind that changes direction every5 seconds, takes about 30 minutes.

Ugh you ****ers made me install Strava so I could time my commute. Officially: 9.2 miles, 37 minutes moving time (42 minutes total elapsed), av speed 14.9 mph.

It'll be a little longer distance and a little slower going home, because I take a slightly different route and traffic is worse.

I'm at about 9 in the morning and 23 in the afternoon. I have to get to work too early to ride the whole way in the morning so I cheat and take the train. The afternoon takes me about an 1:15ish if i try really hard, but I average about 1:25

I QOM'd a 2.5 mi segment this morning, but only because I'm the only chick that has ever strava'd it. Was 10th place among the boys (but I stop at stop lights and got stuck behind a slowpoke for part of it). 3rd overall on another, shorter segment.

Argh I should delete it, this is so bad for my mental health. So competitive. #cat6commuterLOL

Edited to add: I am confused about some of the posts here. The question is about commutes, yet I see things like "never done it on a weekday" and "but I have to turn around and go right back". A commute is your trip to work/school. So, yeah, confused.

Commuting is where I get most of my miles too.

If I had the time/leg strength/stamina, I'd ride both ways, but that's a bit much.

Between 6 and 7 miles each way, About 30 min in (up and down, more down) and 40 min back (down and up, more up). I commute by bike most days, unless it's raining.

Oh man, I'm totally gonna follow you on Strava and try to beat your times haha.

Kidding.

1.5 mile commute.

I sometimes take a detour on the way home because of this.

And I have all my Strava routes marked as private (I just use it as a personal ride diary), so so much for the competitiveness.

Bikes: Bike Count: Rising.

I don't use strava, I don't even have a smartphone or a GPS device. Just a good sense of direction, gmaps pedometer and a bike computer here.

My commute is 14 miles each way, unfortunately uphill both ways.

Same, I leave around 6:30 on average and ride about 5 miles to the other side of town. There is no better time to bike. I almost never see traffic and it is the perfect temperature. But with the hills in the morning there is no way I could make it on time. I would have to leave at like 5:45. Which is something I'm not ready to do for a summer job. If this turns into something long term eventually I probably will.
