Mission Rummy or Seagull bag?

I am trying to choose between these two bags.

I am biking less and less because I mostly transit these days but I find a messenger bag great as I can swing it around without taking it off on the train. I also really dislike messenger bags that hang by the hip, I must prefer a bag that can cinch tight on the back. Currently have an old chrome metropolis and looking to downsize.

I am looking for a comfortable strap (please dont say to get a two strap bag) and a nice place for my laptop.

I am worried about the roll top of the mission rummy. I really like just using velcro to keep the flap closed on my chrome but this is mainly to quickly get my laptop in and out of the bag. I think I can access the laptop pocket in the rummy with the top still rolled up but not sure about the pocket for the laptop on the rummy to be honest.

The seagull looks nice and its cool that I can customize the colours and get a laptop sleeve built in.

Price is about the same so not a big issue on that front.

Suggestions please

You should ask for advice instead of running a poll.

Sound advice is worth more than popular opinion.

Have you considered a good backpack?

I've had all kinds of messenger bags over the years. I've given them all away except for my Chrome Metropolis. I only use the Metropolis when I need to carry lots of stuff. I use backpacks for everything else...especially if my laptop is involved.

My suggestion: Incase backpack or other nice backpack.

I've had my Incase backpack (can't recall the model name) for over 4 years and it looks new. The quality is top notch.

Got a nice lowepro backpack already that I never use. I really like messenger bags for some reason.

I love my Seagull bag. I had it customized with a lot of different inserts for papers, pens, coins, pockets, a lock, waterbottle. I'm sure you can do this on most bags, but it is a really nice bag. I've had it since 2008 and it has held up amazingly well. I got the medium size and I can carry a 17" laptop and a couple larger books. Ofcourse, that is not exactly that comfortable, but I can do it.

rolling the top on the rummy is optional. it can also close like any other messenger bag. or is that not what you're worried about?

the laptop pocket fits a 15 inch laptop without problem

I am wishing it closed with velcro and not just clips. Don't believe it does.
