...but are they conversions that people had to dedicate work to build, or just a nice shiny ride plucked right out of the bikeshops?
(I hear you get extra credit if you "built it yourself!")
p.s. -down for Brooklyn rides too, be it Monstertrack or otherwise

a lot of the bikes i'm seeing are almost painfully clean, especially in this crappy weather.

well, the weather's great, but that means everyone's tossing their snow into the street which keeps them wonderfully slushy and dirty.

I live in next to prospect park ( Brooklyn Bike Mecca ). All types of riders in the park and less hectic than central park. Living near the park you get to all types of bike traffic coming through.

I rarely see SS/F riders in Brooklyn...
i live & work by prospect/vanderbilt/gap and i've seen lots of fg/trk bikes around here. they've seem to become more prevalent over the last two years. but i guess everybody knows that. and yes, i'll probably be priced out of here soon.

You gotta be kidding about not seeing fixed gears in Brooklyn, right?
I walked out of some sushi place on 5th the other night and the first 5 bikes I saw, either locked up or riding were all fixed. Coming out of Prospect Park from a run on Saturday morning, I saw a couple of guys all on fixed gears chilling by the farmer's market. I think the only place with a higher concentration of fixed gears than Brooklyn is the East Village/Lower East Side. Everyone I see there is on a fixed.
It's great.
