I have these set up on the roadie, but I have, in fact, done over 500 miles with this setup on various fixayz. I love those shoes... $99 MSRP, they still look as good as the day I got them, they're lighter than my pedals, and they're plenty stiff enough for my pitiful wittle legs (not very stiff).

I also have a set of Time Atac Alium pedals and Trashbar MTB shoes that I used to commute with (and have admittedly raced on). Pretty heinous. The bearings are totally shot, and the shoes feel like marshmallows with thumb tacks on the bottom.

I have a pair of Shiman 520 pedals and... no shoes, at the moment. I had some Specialized shoes (discontinued model), but my feet finally burst through them and I can't find any shoes that fit my mutant Hobbit feet :/

I have Hobbit feet too and Sidi's Mega shape are the perfect fit, you should give them a try.

Cruisers usually have threaded pedals, just like any other bike, but may use a 1/2" axle instead of the usual 9/16" axle found on most other bikes. If you're looking for foot retention and better pedals, Odyssey Twisted BMX 1/2" pedals w/ straps like Retrogression sells would be the way to go.

The current 105 pedal is the best bang for the buck pedal on the market at the moment.

For fixed I currently have the above pedal or the near identical/ older dura ace version which the above pedal is based off of, *hint hint. And either of these shoes:

And currently debating want/need on whether to get the wires.

Clipless on the street? I did when I was riding fixed on the street. I prefer the DA pedals for the lower q factor. I plan to build another street fixie and will probably go back to straps.

All my friends and I ride clipless. All of them double sided pedals. M520, speedplay zero, and time atacs is pretty much all we ride.

Those are some nice vans, mate.

Switching over to clipless made a massive difference in my longer rides... I went with sidi dominator 5's and shimano m540s ... and it's not as "scary" as you might think.. riding a rather "fast" bike (sometimes without brakes) and being seemingly attached to it, that is.. it's an adjustment.. but well worth it imo.

when i first started riding fixed gear i was really paranoid of even using clips and straps since id ridden bmx on platforms all my life

about a week in i wanted nothing more than to be as attached to the pedals as possible
the only reason im not using zero float cleats at this point is ive heard theyre not the best for long rides

I used speedplay pedals fixed for a few months and while I loved it, the convenience of street shoes and a clip/strap setup won in the end.
I'm on and off the bike too much to justify all the duckwalking and cleat wear.

Anyone recommend a good recessed cleat setup? Seems like a good middle ground.

i feel like a derp when i ride platform pedals. less of a derp when i ride clips and straps, but still pretty derpy. clipless has ruined me.
