Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? That's why he has the big rear tire.......top speed to maintain the lead.

I'm probably alone on this but - ghetto frankenbikes like this aren't really "jackass" to me in the spirit of this thread.

Ugly? Yes.
Ridiculous? You bet.

But there's something strangely utilitarian about riding something like that. I don't know why but it seems a lot more forgivable than an aerospoke on a MB or sawed off carbon fiber drops on a street bike.

I wouldn't be caught dead on something like that - but for some reason I can picture someone like my out of touch father doing something like this. He's a jack of all trades but knows nothing about bikes and I can totally imagine him pulling something like this out of his workshop and saying "check this out!"

Who knows, maybe I'm just in a good mood today.

I hear what you're saying. IMO, there's "designer jackass" and "utility jackass."

Needing a bike and using whatever falls to-hand makes sense, although there is room for jackassery in this scenario as well. Things like multiple sets of bar end extenders all bolted together to get an upright position, bum bars, generally cutting things up, welding crap together, using mop handles for handlebars, etc. all push even the most utilitarian build into jackass territorry, IMO.

Precisely. I agree - it can be jackass as well - I just find it all much more forgivable then the "designer jackass" like you said.

It's like comparing a truck with a home-made wooden tailgate, bare steelie wheels, and duct tape holding the mirrors on VS. a lancer with lambo doors, gaudy body kit, giant useless wing on the back etc.

They're both "jackass" but, the latter is infinitely more hatable.

Agree with what you're saying SSbalt, and are you going to Bike Party at the end of the month in B'More?

Not a bad bike, but that top tube is just being gratuitous for aesthetics' sake. Which is too bad because it looks ugly.

No your not the only one, but I'm of the mind that it's messed up so often nowadays, you minus whale learn to live with it. For all intensive purposes it means the same thing.

Definitely not the only one. When disc brake gets posted as disk break, I get a bit annoyed.

I'm being a nitpick, but this always ticks me off and I see it all the time. I'd love to see this thing set up for someone who is 6'1"

https://www.ebay.com/itm/2006-Special...item20cf6eeb2d

FRAME: 52cm '06 Specialized S-Works Langster
can easily accomodate for riders from 5'5" to 6'1"
